Honda City Hybrid Gets Costlier: New Price, Specs & What You Still Get
Honda Cars India has announced a price hike for the City e:HEV hybrid sedan, effective immediately.
The City e:HEV, the company's sole hybrid offering in the Indian market, is now priced at Rs. 20.85 lakh (ex-showroom), a hike of Rs. 29,900 over the last price change. This price adjustment is applicable to the ZX variant, which is the only trim available here.
The Honda City Hybrid was launched in 2022 with an introductory price of Rs. 19.50 lakh (ex-showroom). Since then, there have been a few price adjustments, the last one being the highest one.
Regardless of the higher price, Honda has not provided any visual upgrades or feature updates in this price change, which can be disappointing for buyers.
The City e:HEV still uses a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine with two electric motors. Total combined output is 108 bhp and 253 Nm and is mated to an e-CVT automatic transmission.
It has three operating modes — EV-only, hybrid or engine-only — and switches between them based on driving conditions.
One of its main selling propositions is its ARAI-tested fuel economy of 27.1 kmpl, so far the most fuel-efficient sedan in the class.
Despite the price increase, the Honda City Hybrid is still an enticing proposition for someone after a refined, fuel-efficient sedan that combines petrol cost and efficiency with electric cost and efficiency. It competes with traditional ICE-backed car big guns like Hyundai Verna and Skoda Slavia, however, it has a unique hybrid proposition.
Although the price increase does put the City Hybrid closer to premium territory, it still does offer best-in-class fuel efficiency, safety features and hybrid technology. Without further updates on the price increase for customers, this is sure to leave even some of the most loyal customers a little less enthused about what they have received.
