With over 1.21 lakh units sold in December 2025, India's under-4-meter SUV market showed a significant year-on-year increase.
The Tata Nexon and Maruti Brezza trailed closely behind the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, which dominated the market.
As consumers continued to gravitate toward these useful and feature-rich models, India's compact SUV market (vehicles under four meters in length) concluded 2025 with remarkable momentum.
Combined sales in this category reached 1,21,591 units in December alone, a significant 36.6% year-over-year rise from 89,008 units in December 2024. This indicates that demand for sub-4m SUVs is still strong despite growing competition.
With 20,706 units sold, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx led the field and nearly doubled its sales from the same month the previous year. This increase demonstrates the Fronx's increasing appeal as a chic and well-equipped small crossover that appeals to consumers looking for a cutting-edge SUV option in a vehicle that is suitable for urban areas.
The Tata Nexon and Nexon EV, which together sold 19,375 units in December 2025, followed closely behind. Nexon sales decreased slightly from November, indicating some cooling following the holiday season, despite this being a solid 43.1 percent increase over December 2024.
With 17,704 units sold, a consistent yearly increase, and renewed monthly momentum, the Maruti Brezza carried on its history of strong success.
In the meantime, the Hyundai Venue contributed 10,322 sales and the Tata Punch family registered almost 15,980 units, demonstrating how a variety of products continue to attract customers at all price points.
Several additional small SUVs made significant contributions in addition to the top five models. The Kia Sonet achieved one of the highest year-over-year growth rates, suggesting growing interest, while the Mahindra XUV3XO recorded decent sales. The ranking also included models like the Hyundai Exter, Toyota Taisor, Skoda Kylaq, and Kia Syros, demonstrating the increasing level of competition in this market.
The December 2025 figures confirm that the sub-4m SUV market in India continues to be a major driver of passenger car sales, fueled by consumer demand for small, effective, and feature-rich cars. This market is probably going to remain at the top of the automotive demand in 2026 and beyond as long as manufacturers keep adding new models and updating their lineups.
