The Honda City, one of the longest-serving and best-loved sedans in the Indian market, is due for a meaningful update. The facelift has already been spotted testing abroad, and Honda has confirmed its launch for May 22, 2026. The revised model will feature updated headlamps, a new grille, reworked bumpers, fresh alloy wheel designs, new tail lamps, and an overhauled cabin.
Mechanically, the City carries on with its tried-and-tested 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine, offered with both manual and CVT gearbox options. The e:HEV strong hybrid variant, which pairs a 1.5-litre Atkinson-cycle engine with an e-CVT, will also continue in the updated line-up.
Arriving on the very same day is the ZR-V, a premium mid-size SUV that Honda will bring to India as a completely built-up import.
Positioned below the CR-V in Honda's global hierarchy, the ZR-V has recently been updated to replace its older 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine with a 2.0-litre naturally aspirated strong hybrid setup, and India will receive this powertrain exclusively.
The equipment list is suitably generous for its positioning, with Google Assistant integration, a 9-inch touchscreen, Honda Sensing driver assistance systems, a 12-speaker Bose audio system, and multi-zone climate control all on offer. The ZR-V is expected to take on the Volkswagen Tiguan in terms of segment and pricing.
The Honda Elevate has been a capable, if somewhat understated, presence in the mid-size SUV segment since its launch. Honda is now working on a hybrid version of the Elevate, which has been spotted testing on a few occasions. The plan is to have it ready for the festive season of 2026.
To keep pricing competitive, Honda is developing an affordable, lightweight hybrid system with a high degree of local content. The powertrain will be built around the existing 1.5-litre petrol base, and the exterior will receive minor cosmetic revisions alongside the mechanical update.
Few nameplates carry as much emotional weight as the Prelude. Honda's two-door coupe is set to make its return to India in 2027 as a completely built-up import, and it is expected to be the priciest Honda on sale in the country upon arrival.
A 2.0-litre strong hybrid petrol engine producing around 200 PS sits under the bonnet, and pricing is anticipated to fall in the range of Rs 70 to 80 lakh. The Prelude will function as a halo product, designed to strengthen the brand's performance and technology credentials rather than chase high sales volumes.
Honda's first electric vehicle for the Indian market, the Zero Alpha SUV, is already undergoing public road tests.
Notably, unlike the ZR-V and Prelude, which arrive as imports, the Zero Alpha will be manufactured locally in India for both domestic and export markets. A launch is targeted for the first quarter of 2027.
The SUV will compete directly with the Maruti Suzuki eVitara and Hyundai Creta Electric. Battery specifications have not been officially disclosed, though a capacity in the region of 60 to 70 kWh and a claimed range exceeding 500 km are anticipated.
This five-model pipeline reflects a carmaker with a clear, two-track strategy. The City facelift and ZR-V address the present market, while the Elevate Hybrid builds credentials in a segment increasingly defined by fuel efficiency.
The Prelude and Zero Alpha, meanwhile, are long-term bets on brand equity. Together, they suggest that Honda is no longer content to occupy a quiet corner of the Indian automotive market and is instead pushing for relevance across a broader and more demanding audience.
