Citroen Basalt India Production Begins Ahead of Launch

Citroen India is gearing up for the launch of its next SUV, the Basalt, which has now entered series production. Autocar India has confirmed that the Basalt is being built at the Thiruvallur plant in Tamil Nadu, alongside the C3 Aircross SUV, the C3 hatchback, and the eC3 electric variant.

Citroen Basalt to Rival Tata Curvv

The Citroen Basalt was showcased in a near-production-ready form a few months ago. This SUV coupe will be approximately 4.3 meters long and is set to compete with the upcoming Tata Curvv, which shares a similar body style. Additionally, the Basalt aims to provide a distinct alternative to popular midsize SUVs such as the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Toyota Hyryder, Volkswagen Taigun, Skoda Kushaq, and even Citroen's own C3 Aircross SUV.

Citroen Basalt: Powertrain and Feature Expectations

The Citroen Basalt will be equipped with a 110hp, 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine, identical to the one in the C3 Aircross, offering both manual and automatic transmission options. Besides its distinctive sloping roofline, the Basalt is anticipated to come with additional features compared to the C3 hatch and C3 Aircross SUV. The latter models have faced criticism for lacking in equipment compared to their competitors.

Stay tuned for more updates as the Citroen Basalt approaches its official launch in the coming months.
