The Chinese brand's Indian website now features the BYD Seal, which was unveiled at the Auto Expo last year. For the first time, the BYD Seal EV has been seen undergoing testing in India. The Chinese automaker's electric sedan was observed undergoing testing near Chennai's periphery, indicating an impending release in the Indian market.
With the release of the Seal all-electric sedan, BYD Auto will add a third model to its lineup in India. On March 5, the Seal EV will be added to BYD's India lineup along with the Atto 3 SUV and e6 MPV. Dealers are reportedly taking unofficial reservations for the BYD Seal EV, which is expected to go on sale in India sometime in March 2024.
Details of the BYD Seal
Exterior and interior: Based on the brand's EV platform (e-platform 3.0), the electric sedan measures 4,800mm in length, 1,875mm in width, and 1,460mm in height. Its wheelbase is 2,920mm. Known as "ocean aesthetics," this design concept aligns with BYD's goal for its line of electric vehicles. The Seal EV's sleek, contemporary exterior is enhanced by its large LED headlights and C-shaped DRLs up front. Its exquisitely designed LED lighting elements in the bumper trim pieces and side air vents are just one illustration of its artistic flair.

The 10.25-inch digital driver's display and the 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen are features of the Seal EV. A central air conditioning vent, a drive selector, a scroll wheel for changing driving modes, two wireless charging pads, speakers built into the door handles, and a panoramic glass roof are further interior features. Adaptive cruise control, lane-keeping assistance, blind spot monitoring, and other features are examples of driver assistance systems.
Powertrain: The 61.4kWh and 82.5kWh battery packs are the two that are offered with the BYD Seal. Although the smaller battery is available in single-motor and dual-motor configurations, the latter is limited to AWD models. According to sources, the Indian market will only see the highest-end vehicle equipped with two motors. With its 530 horsepower, this model can accelerate from 0 to 100 miles per hour in just 3.8 seconds. This variant, according to BYD, has a 700 km range. To put this in perspective, the 61.4kWh battery pack with AWD only generates 312PS and needs an additional 2 seconds to reach 100 kmph.
Price estimate for BYD Seal, rivals in India
Anticipate BYD Seal costs to be approximately Rs 50 lakh (ex-showroom). Dealers have disclosed that following the March 5 announcement of prices, deliveries of the Seal EV will soon begin. Even though the Seal has no direct competitors, the EV will compete with vehicles such as the Tesla Model 3, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV, and the Kia EV6 crossover, given its price range.
