BYD Introduces the ATTO 2 DM-i Hybrid SUV, boasting a 1,020 km total range and a 90km electric range.
The ATTO 2 DM-i, the newest small SUV from Chinese carmaker BYD, signifies the company's entry into the hybrid vehicle market in addition to its electric vehicle lineup. With a significant emphasis on efficiency and range, the new model promises a driving experience that is "EV-like."
In the class of small SUVs, the ATTO 2 DM-i's electric-only range of up to 90 kilometers is remarkable.
The total or "combined" range of the hybrid powertrain, which combines the battery and gasoline engine, is roughly 1,020 kilometers.
The "DM-i" stands for BYD's "Dual Mode – intelligent" hybrid technology, which was formerly employed in their larger smartphones. This technology optimises driving experience and efficiency by combining assistance for gasoline engines with electric motors.
To meet the diverse needs of customers, two versions will be available, each with a different battery size, power output, and range.
The ATTO 2 DM-i gets distinguishing design features, such as a bigger front grille, reshaped bumpers, the elimination of some side vents, and a special "Midnight Blue" color scheme that is only available on the DM-i model, even though it still has the overall silhouette of the all-electric ATTO 2.
Delivery of the ATTO 2 DM-i is anticipated to begin in early 2026, with a media unveiling scheduled for November. The ATTO 2 DM-i is initially being offered to European markets.
Although no precise date has been set for the Indian market as of yet, BYD has been aggressively growing its footprint there with EV products.
With a substantial 90-kilometer electric-only driving range for daily commuting and a long-haul range of over 1,000 kilometers when required, the ATTO2 DM-i offers purchasers an appealing alternative.
For the general public, it signifies BYD's entry into the plug-in hybrid (PHEV) industry, which connects conventional gasoline technology with electric vehicles.
In markets with underdeveloped charging infrastructure, a hybrid model like this could be a useful first step toward going entirely electric.
