BYD e6 Facelift Teased in India, Launch Expected Soon

The BYD e6, the carmaker's first offering in India, is about to get a significant update. After the international debut of its facelifted version, BYD India has teased the refreshed e6, signaling an imminent launch. Known as the BYD M6 globally, this electric MPV comes in 6- and 7-seater configurations, while the current e6 in India is offered as a 5-seater. Let’s explore what the Indian version of this updated electric MPV might offer.

Exterior Enhancements

The facelifted BYD e6 will maintain its overall silhouette but with a more sleek and modern design. The front features a full-width silver bar that integrates with updated LED headlights, similar to those on the BYD Atto 3, with revised internal lighting elements. A camera is positioned on the bumper as part of a 360-degree setup, along with a radar for advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS). The vehicle also includes LED DRLs and tweaked bumpers adorned with chrome accents on the lower part.

Globally, the model rides on 17-inch Y-spoke aerodynamically designed alloy wheels. At the rear, it now sports a sharper look, thanks to the revised LED tail light setup. The tailgate is marked with the ‘BYD’ logo and a chrome strip that connects the tail lights.

Cabin, Expected Features, and Safety

Inside, the global-spec BYD e6 features a dual-tone cabin theme with a redesigned dashboard that includes wooden inserts. The center console has been updated to accommodate a new drive mode selector. The facelifted version also comes with a more modern-looking steering wheel, while retaining the twin-pod analogue instrument cluster with a colored MID in the center.

The Indian version may adopt some of these new features, including a larger 12.8-inch rotating touchscreen system (up from the current 10.1-inch system), wireless phone charging, a panoramic glass roof, and ventilated front seats. It might also offer a 6-way powered driver’s seat and a 4-way powered front passenger seat.

In terms of safety, the facelifted BYD e6 could be equipped with six airbags, a tyre pressure monitoring system, all-wheel disc brakes, ISOFIX anchors, and a 360-degree camera. ADAS features such as autonomous emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, lane centring assist, blind spot monitoring, and automatic high beam are also expected.

Expected Powertrain

Internationally, the BYD e6 is available with two battery pack options: a 55.4 kWh pack and a 71.8 kWh BYD Blade pack. The 55.4 kWh battery delivers 163 PS from its electric motor, while the 71.8 kWh pack produces 204 PS. It has a claimed range of 530 km (NEDC) and includes vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which allows the car to power external devices.

Expected Launch and Rivals

The facelifted BYD e6 is expected to be priced slightly higher than the current model, which costs Rs 29.15 lakh (ex-showroom). While it has no direct rivals in the Indian market, the e6 serves as an electric alternative to the Toyota Innova Hycross and Toyota Innova Crysta.

As customer anticipation builds, the facelifted BYD e6 is poised to further establish its presence in India’s growing electric vehicle market.
