BYD Atto 2 EV Revealed New EV Rated 420km and Fast Charger

The Chinese electric vehicle giant BYD has unveiled its latest product, which is the Atto 2, a compact SUV sitting under the Atto 3. Costing GBP 30,850 (roughly Rs 32.5 lakh) in the UK, the Atto 2 is the cheapest SUV in the BYD portfolio, but offers state-of-the-art technology and impressive performance credentials.

Battery types and Range

The Atto 2 becomes the first compact model of BYD to feature Cell-to-Body (CTB) design, which sees the integration of the Blade battery into the chassis. This increases rigidity and safety as well as optimises space.

There are two battery options available to the customers:

  • The power is changed to an 80kWh one with a 345km WLTP-verified range.

  • It can drive as much as 420km and has a 64.8kWh pack, which is well-suited for long journeys.

Charging Performance

Another area of the Atto 2 that stands out when it comes to charging is out-of-the-box charging. The Boost model has a power of 82kW DC fast charge and can charge 30-80 percent in 30 minutes.

Comfort, in the meantime, has 155kW DC fast charging, bringing the same amount of charging time to 21 minutes. Both trims are standard with 11kW AC charging capabilities with the ability to be used in home and public charging.

Features and Technology

The Atto 2 features a load of modern comforts on board. Its infotainment system sports a 12.8-inch rotatable touchscreen, an eight-speaker sound system, wireless charging, and Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) in order to provide the capability of powering external devices. This luxurious equipment makes the Atto 2 an urban e-SUV with good all-round potential.

Indian Potential in a Market

Although the Atto 2 is in the market today in the UK, it could come to India as well to complement the Atto 3. With such an introduction, it would pose a direct competition to the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, and the Mahindra BE 6, thus making the compact EV segment all the more competitive.

The BYD Atto 2 has the potential to be a major game changer in the current EV market with its affordability and the ability to charge within minutes, as well as its wide variety of offerings.
