BMW Concept Skytop Inches Closer to India Launch: A Rare Masterpiece with a Price to Match

BMW India teased its ultra-limited Concept Skytop, posting new images of the vehicle on social media after a seven-month slumber. The latest teaser revealed that enthusiasts were hoping that the Skytop would be launched in limited quantities in India, making it one of the most exclusive offerings by the Bavarian brand.

A Blend of Timeless Design and Modern Elegance

The BMW Concept Skytop was first shown off at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este. It pays homage to two classic BMWs: the Z8 roadster and the 503 coupe. It features a shark-nose front end, sculpted bonnet, and flat deck rear, while also sporting razor-thin headlamps and ultra-slim LED taillights that were referenced by design head Adrian van Hooydonk as the thinnest ever on a BMW.

While the retro inspirations are clear, it's obvious that the Skytop shares DNA with the 8 Series grand tourer, especially with respect to its stance and proportions, which blend classic with modern aesthetics.

Interior Designed for Enthusiasts

The Concept Skytop's interior is recognized as BMW 8 Series. It has the same digital instrument cluster, infotainment system, and gear selector. But it gives you the additional feel of a handmade, brogue style reddish brown leather from BMW's saddlery and craftsmen experts in Dingolfing.

The removable Targa-style roof is broken into two pieces that fit into the boot and adds to the exclusivity. The roll bar behind the seats exposed, plus the retractable rear window make this car a statement of luxury motoring and open-air driving.

Powerhouse Under the Hood

The performance is equally thrilling. The Skytop utilizes a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine with 617 horsepower, comparable to the output of a BMW M8 Competition. Mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission, it can go from 0-100kmph in slightly more than 3.3 seconds.

Exclusivity Comes at a Price

The Skytop is built under special and handcrafted production, allowing for a high degree of customisation and premium quality. The international price is €500,000 (₹4.61 crore), which encompasses the bespoke luxury of a BMW 3.0 CSL. The price in India has yet to be confirmed but being a limited and collectible item, it is sure to gain respect and lots of attention.

We aren’t sure how close the launch will be, but BMW's latest teaser suggests enthusiasts in India won't have to wait long to see or own a rolling work of automotive art like this.
