5 Global Cars Coming to India Soon

The global auto scene is quite diverse compared to India, with many unique cars available internationally that brands haven’t yet brought to our country. At GIIAS, the Indonesian auto show, we saw several global cars that will eventually make their way to India. In this article, we will discuss these upcoming global cars.

Honda WR-V

Honda recently revitalized its presence in India with the launch of the Elevate, the brand’s first proper SUV in the country. To sustain this growth, Honda plans to introduce more SUVs. Next up is the compact SUV WR-V, already available in Indonesia. However, for the Indian market, Honda will likely modify it to fit the sub-4m segment. It could come with a 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 88bhp and 110Nm of torque, paired with manual and CVT gearbox options. The WR-V is expected to launch in India by 2024.

Hyundai Stargazer

Hyundai currently lacks an affordable 7-seater in India. In Indonesia, the Stargazer fits this category perfectly and could compete with the Maruti Ertiga, XL6, and Kia Carens in India. The Stargazer shares many parts with the Creta, helping to reduce costs. Hyundai is anticipated to launch the Stargazer in India sometime in 2024.

New-Gen Kia Carnival

Kia discontinued the Carnival in India earlier this year but plans to bring the new-gen Carnival to the market next year. This will be the facelifted model, not the version seen at GIIAS. Spy shots suggest a sharper exterior design. In India, it might feature the same 2.2-litre diesel engine as the outgoing model. Expect a 12-inch infotainment system, wing-out headrests, and a digital instrument cluster. The new Carnival is likely to debut in mid-2024.

Mitsubishi X-Force (Renault Duster)

Mitsubishi is not returning to India, but the X-Force will come under the Renault brand as the new Duster. This is because Mitsubishi is in an alliance with Renault and Nissan, and they are working on six new products, one of which is a C-SUV. The X-Force will be redesigned and equipped with additional features for the Indian market. Renault plans to launch the Duster by Diwali 2025.

Kia EV9

Kia plans to expand its electric vehicle lineup in India with the EV9, following the success of the EV6. The EV9, which we saw at GIIAS, impressed with its size and features. Kia has retained many concept elements in the production version, including a clean side profile with enclosed door handles, big wheel arches, vertical tail lamps, and an upright bonnet design. The EV9 will offer RWD and AWD options and is expected to launch in India sometime in 2024.
