20% of Compact SUV Sales in India Are Powered by the Hyundai Venue's Diesel Version

  • About 20% of Hyundai Venue compact SUV sales come from the diesel version.

  • High fuel efficiency, a new diesel-automatic option, and Hyundai's targeted marketing approach all contributed to the surge.

The Hyundai Venue's diesel engine option accounts for almost 20% of its overall sales in the compact-SUV (or "sub-4-meter") market. In particular, almost 1.4 lakh of the over 7 lakh Venue units sold up till early September were diesel models.

This means that petrol or turbo-petrol models account for about 80% of sales, or an 80:20 ratio.

Why is the demand for diesel so high?

Diesel automatic boosts power

The 1.5-liter diesel engine in the new Venue generation comes with both a manual and, for the first time, an automatic transmission, making it more appealing to people who demand convenience and diesel efficiency.

High mileage and perceived worth

The 2025 Venue diesel is said to get up to 20.99 km/l in manual mode and roughly 17.9 km/l in automatic.

This diesel economy provides it an advantage in a market crowded with gasoline-powered vehicles, especially for consumers who frequently travel on highways or have high mileage.

Strategic placement of products

As part of its effort to reclaim market share in India's PV market, Hyundai Motor India is relying on the Venue and its variations (with a target of approximately 15%).

The Venue is successfully placing itself in a market that is still dominated by SUVs thanks to its upgraded powertrain, improved feature list, and reasonable pricing.
