If you are tired of working the clutch in stop-and-go traffic, this Diwali offers a lot of choice. Most affordable automatics use an AMT, short for automated manual transmission. It has no clutch pedal, so you drive with two pedals, and it usually costs only a little more than the manual version.

Here are 10 automatic cars you can buy this festive season, listed by starting price.

The Kwid has an SUV-style look. Its Climber AMT costs ₹5.6 lakh (ex-showroom) and adds roof rails and black cladding. Depending on the variant, you get an 8-inch touchscreen with wireless smartphone connectivity, automatic climate control and a reverse camera.

The Alto K10 costs a little more than the S-Presso and has a claimed 24.90 kmpl. It is small and easy to drive. Its CNG option comes only with the manual gearbox.

Between ₹5.5 to ₹7 lakh

The Celerio is known for efficiency, with a claimed 26 kmpl for the AMT. Higher variants add push-button start and keyless entry. The Wagon R gives you more headroom, and you can choose a 1.0-litre or a more powerful 1.2-litre engine with 91 PS.

The Magnite is the first SUV on the list. Its automatic range starts with the Visia AMT, and higher variants offer a turbo-petrol engine with a CVT automatic, from ₹9.26 lakh (ex-showroom).

The Tata Aeris is the newest car here and the only sedan. It has a 419-litre boot, a 10.25-inch touchscreen, cruise control and an available 360-degree camera. It is also available with a CNG AMT, starting at ₹7.70 lakh (ex-showroom).

Closer To ₹7 lakh

The Exter is the second SUV on the list, and six airbags are standard across its range. Higher variants add a sunroof.

The Tiago comes with an AMT in both petrol and CNG. Higher variants add a 10.25-inch touchscreen, a 360-degree camera and a wireless charger. The Grand i10 Nios has the 1.2-litre engine and features such as cruise control and rear AC vents.

Inshort…

Three automatics start below ₹5 lakh, and most of the rest cost under ₹7.25 lakh. If your budget is tight, start with the S-Presso, Kwid or Alto K10. If you want more space or an SUV, the Wagon R, Magnite and Exter are the next step up.
