The Discovery Sport is the most affordable and highest-selling model from Land Rover in India. Launched in 2014, the Land Rover Discovery Sport was first introduced as a replacement for the ageing Freelander.

It spawned the Discovery sub-brand of SUVs from Land Rover by stepping in as a mini version of the flagship Discovery. The Discovery Sport was given a comprehensive facelift in 2020, which came to India in 2021.

It is available as a three-row SUV as standard, with a 5+2 seating configuration.

The latest Land Rover Discovery Sport was launched in India on July 30, 2022, which saw the SUV get tweaks to its exterior and a whole new cabin with more features.

• The Discovery Sport is now on sale in a single R-Dynamic SE trim, with two mild hybrid engine options: an electric+petrol and an electric+diesel.

• This Discovery Sport sits on Jaguar-Land Rover Premium Transverse Architecture (PTA), which it shares with other SUVs from the JLR brand, such as the Range Rover Evoque and Jaguar E-Pace.

• This platform replaced the JLR D8 platform, which underpinned the pre-facelifted version of the Discovery Sport.

• The Discovery Sport is locally assembled at Jaguar-Land Rover’s production facility in India.

• The facelifted version of the Discovery Sport has an all-wheel-drive configuration as standard for its single variant on sale.

• There are five colour options for the Land Rover Discovery Sport: Fuji White, Santorini Black, Firenze Red, Eiger Grey, and Portofino Blue.

With the facelifted version of the Discovery Sport, Land Rover tweaked the exterior elements of the SUV, which makes it look more modern, elegant and expensive.

• The front fascia of the Discovery Sport looks fresher with sleeker headlamps with curved outer and inner edges, which get revised all-LED illumination and new daytime running LEDs.

• The front trapezoidal grille of the Discovery Sport now gets a new mesh design.

• Land Rover has tweaked the design of the front bumper of the Discovery Sport with new vertical air curtains and a new large air dam in the middle with gloss black touches and a new mesh design.

• Land Rover has retained the side profile of the Discovery Sport, which looks like a scaled-down version of the larger-sized Discovery with a sleek crease flowing through the side body panels.

• As a part of the R-Dynamic package, it now gets different flashy-looking 19-inch alloy wheels.

• The Discovery Sport gets heated and electrically adjustable and foldable rearview mirrors, wide C-pillars and a wraparound theme for the rear windscreen.

• The tail lamps of the Discovery Sport feature a sleeker design for the LED inserts within them, with the space running between the tail lamps finished in a gloss black theme.

• The rear bumper of the Discovery Sport looks refreshed with a sleeker design for the diffuser and a new-looking pair of exhaust ports.

• At the top, the Discovery Sport is available with a fixed panoramic glass roof as standard.

With this facelifted version, Land Rover tweaked the layout and features list of the Discovery Sport in comparison to its pre-facelifted version.

• There are two leather upholstery options for the cabin of the Discovery Sport – Ebony Duoleather seats with Mars Red stitch and Light Oyster/Ebony Duoleather seats with Light Oyster stitch.

• Land Rovers offers natural shadow oak veneer for the dashboard, door pad garnishes, and satin silver inserts on the door panels, steering wheel, and transmission lever surrounds.

• The manually-adjustable multi-functional steering wheel gets an instrument console with analogue dials on the sides and a central TFT screen behind it.

• The front seats of the Discovery Sport offer 12-way power adjustments for the driver and 10-way power adjustments for the co-driver. The second row of seats has manual sliding and reclining functions.

• A 10-inch Pivi Pro infotainment system sits in the middle of the slanted centre console. Offering wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, this screen has a touch panel for the dual-zone automatic climate control below it.

• The Discovery Sport has a wireless charging pad and USB charging slots in all three rows for charging your devices.

• A Meridian sound system, ambient lighting and cabin air purification further enhanced the premium experience of the cabin of the Discovery Sport.

The Land Rover Discovery Sport is armed with a few autonomous driving assistance features, including adaptive cruise control, lane keep assist, driver attention monitor, and trailer stability assist.

For an easy parking experience, the Discovery Sport has front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree parking camera.

Other safety features available as standard in the Discovery Sport are hill launch assist, hill descent control, dynamic stability control, traction control, roll stability control and ABS with EBD and brake assist.

Both the engine options of Land Rover Discovery Sport offer different performance experiences behind the steering wheel.

• The petrol version of the Discovery Sport, powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, has a top speed of 224 kmph and can cover the 0-100 kmph acceleration sprint in 8.1 seconds.

• Powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine, the diesel version of the Discovery Sport claims a top speed of 209 kmph and a 0-100 kmph acceleration timing of 8.9 seconds.

• For a flawless driving experience over off-road terrains, the Discovery Sport has all-terrain progress control with Terrain Response 2 system and ClearSight Ground view using a 3D surround camera.

• Despite its midsize dimensions, the Discovery Sport claims a maximum towing capacity of 2,500 kg.

• There are two settings – comfort and dynamic – for the suspension, steering, engine and gear shifts in the Discovery Sport, thanks to the Adaptive Dynamics available as standard.
