VW Tayron Life Launched at Rs 41.99 Lakh in India
Volkswagen introduces the five-seater Tayron Life as a more affordable entry point to the range
Priced Rs 5 lakh below the seven-seater Tayron R-Line
Volkswagen India has rolled out a new variant of the Tayron called the Life, priced at Rs 41.99 lakh, ex-showroom. It sits below the existing Tayron R-Line, which is priced at Rs 46.99 lakh, making the Life the more wallet-friendly way into the Tayron family. The launch was announced on July 10, 2026.
The biggest difference between the two versions is not visual but practical. The Tayron R-Line seats seven, while the new Life variant is strictly a five-seater. This alone will steer buyers toward whichever version suits their household better, since a third row is not something you can add on later.
Volkswagen has not simply carried over the R-Line's styling and called it a day. The Life rides on a smaller set of alloy wheels, dropping down from the R-Line's 19-inch units. Its bumpers are simpler too, with the sportier R badging left out entirely.
Step inside and the upholstery gets a different dual-tone treatment, and the R logos that usually sit on the doors and steering wheel are missing here, as one would expect on a variant that is not trying to be sporty.
The feature sheet has been pared back in a handful of places to help justify the lower price. The infotainment screen shrinks to 12.9 inches from the R-Line's 15-inch display, and the audio setup moves to a standard eight-speaker system rather than the more sought-after Harman Kardon unit found on the pricier variant.
That said, Volkswagen has not stripped things bare. The Life still comes with illuminated front and rear logos with connected lighting, ambient interior lighting, wireless phone charging, a fully digital instrument cluster, powered front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The massage function on the front seats has also been retained, which is a pleasant surprise on a variant meant to be the more affordable choice.
Volkswagen has wisely left the powertrain alone. The Tayron Life uses the same 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine as the R-Line, sending out 201bhp and 320Nm of torque through a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox.
Buyers stepping down to the Life variant lose out on a few creature comforts and the extra row of seats, but not on outright performance.
At Rs 41.99 lakh, the Tayron Life also works out cheaper than the Tiguan R-Line, which currently retails at a higher price as a fully imported unit. This gap gives Volkswagen a way to offer two distinct propositions to SUV buyers within its own showroom, one built around outright practicality, seating flexibility, and the other around a leaner, five-seat package at a friendlier price point.
For anyone who found the Tayron appealing but did not need a third row, or simply wanted to spend less while keeping the same engine and gearbox, the Life variant now gives that option a proper place in the lineup.
