Volvo Car India has launched the EX90, its new electric flagship SUV, in India on October 12, 2026. The Volvo EX90 price is Rs 1.26 crore (ex-showroom), which the company calls introductory.
It sits above the EX30 and EC40 and costs Rs 27.2 lakh more than the petrol XC90. It is also Volvo's first software-defined vehicle in India, meaning its main functions run on central computers and can be updated over the air, like a phone. Volvo says electric cars already make up 25 per cent of its sales in India.
India gets one fully loaded six-seat version. The seven-seat, rear-drive 92 kWh and 680 hp versions sold abroad have not been announced here.
Bookings made before December 31, 2026 get three extras:
an 11 kW wall-box charger for home
a three-year service package
a 65 per cent buyback after three years, through Volvo dealerships
Jyoti Malhotra, Managing Director of Volvo Car India, said: "The launch of the EX90 is a major milestone in Volvo Car India's commitment towards a more electric, software-defined future."
The EX90 uses Volvo's electric-only SPA2 platform with 800-volt electrics, which allow faster DC charging.
Item Specification for India
Battery and drive: 106 kWh, dual motor, all-wheel drive
Power and torque: 456 hp (335 kW) and 670 Nm
0 to 100 km/h: 5.5 seconds, manufacturer claim
Claimed range: 625 km (WLTP), 725 km (ICAT)
Charging time: 10 to 80 per cent in 22 minutes (350 kW DC); about 11 hours (11 kW AC)
The cabin has a 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen with Google built in, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a 9-inch driver display.
Other equipment includes a 25-speaker, 1,610 W Bowers and Wilkins sound system, four-zone climate control, an air purifier and a panoramic roof that can switch from clear to opaque.
The second row has two captain's chairs that slide and recline but do not fold. Only the front seats get heating, ventilation, massage and electric adjustment.
Boot space is 324 litres with all seats up and 690 litres with the third row folded, plus a 46-litre front boot.
Safety equipment includes nine airbags, a 360-degree camera and Pilot Assist, Volvo's driver assistance system. Volvo fits roof-mounted LiDAR, a laser sensor that measures distance, to the EX90 abroad, but it has not been confirmed for the India car.
The EX90's five-star Euro NCAP rating applies to the European car, not an Indian crash test.
The EX90 is the most expensive electric car Volvo sells in India, but the introductory Volvo EX90 price undercuts the Kia EV9 (Rs 1.30 crore) and the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 (Rs 1.49 crore).
It suits families of four who want a large, quiet electric SUV with comfortable middle-row seats. If you need seven seats or a flat-folding second row, look elsewhere.
Volvo has not said what the price or offer will be after December 31. Before booking, ask your dealer for the buyback terms in writing, including mileage limits, condition checks and how the payout is settled.
