Volkswagen Taigun Facelift Officially Teased Ahead of April 9, 2026 Unveil
The Volkswagen Taigun facelift introduces a continuous connected LED strip at the front, along with a more aggressive C-shaped rear tail-light design.
The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol engine will now be paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the outgoing six-speed unit.
Volkswagen has officially pulled back the curtain, just a little, on the upcoming Taigun facelift. In a teaser released ahead of the car's scheduled April 9, 2026, debut, the German carmaker has confirmed one of the most visually significant changes to the compact SUV.
The front now features a continuous LED light bar that connects both headlight clusters, a design approach that gives the Taigun a distinctly modern and more premium presence.
Notably, this setup differs from the segmented LED arrangement seen on its platform sibling, the Skoda Kushaq, making the Taigun's front-end treatment feel more cohesive and deliberate. An illuminated VW logo adds to the visual drama up front.
At the back, the connected taillight setup that was already part of the Taigun's identity has been reworked into a more imposing C-shaped form at both ends. The result is a rear profile that looks sharper and more purposeful than the outgoing model, suggesting Volkswagen has put genuine thought into making the facelift feel like a meaningful upgrade rather than a mere refresh.
On the mechanical front, the engine lineup stays the same. The 1.0-litre turbo-petrol, which produces 114 bhp and 178 Nm, will now be paired with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox, replacing the six-speed automatic that previously handled duty.
A six-speed manual will continue to be offered alongside it. The more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol, rated at 148 bhp and 250 Nm, carries on with its seven-speed DSG transmission unchanged. This gearbox upgrade mirrors what the Skoda Kushaq facelift has already received, keeping the two cars aligned under Volkswagen Group's India strategy.
While Volkswagen has not officially confirmed the full feature list yet, the teaser points to a car that will be better equipped than before. A rear-seat massage function, a revised infotainment interface with improved user experience, and a dual-pane panoramic sunroof are among the additions anticipated for the facelifted model.
The Taigun has been a steady performer in India's competitive compact SUV segment since its launch, and this update looks set to sharpen its appeal considerably. With a bolder design language, a smoother automatic gearbox option, and a likely richer feature set, the facelift arrives at a time when rivals are raising the bar consistently.
Pricing is expected to fall in the range of Rs 12 lakh to Rs 21 lakh (ex-showroom), though official figures will only be confirmed at the unveil.
