Volkswagen of Germany has formally announced that the ID 1 will be their forthcoming entry-level electric vehicle (EV). During the company's annual press conference, officials discussed Volkswagen's intentions for electrification and made the announcement.
Volkswagen is creating the ID 1, the smallest model in its series of custom electric vehicles, as an entry-level electric vehicle. It will be built on the brand-new MEB First front-drive platform and share design cues with the planned Volkswagen Trinity EV car. The ID 1, the ID 2, the Cupra Urban Rebel, and an entry-level Skoda vehicle will all be based on the platform and should have a more than 400 kilometres range.
The ID Life concept debuted at the 2021 Munich motor show has been updated to be more futuristic and emphasise digital. The design team has returned to the drawing board to offer the final version a better visual relationship to the VW Trinity sedan.
According to sources, the ID 1's production vehicle is expected to have the same 57kWh battery and 243hp front-mounted motor as the concept model. It is anticipated to have a driving range of about 402 kilometres and a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of fewer than seven seconds. The new entry-level EV will significantly outperform the current VW e-Up in terms of performance, efficiency, and functionality, replacing it in many ways.
