Toyota Land Cruiser FJ showcased at Japan Mobility Show 2025
Toyota's off-road heritage is evident in the Land Cruiser FJ. It has an externally mounted spare wheel, robust bumpers, broad wheel arches, and an upright, squared-off appearance that is reminiscent of the FJ40 and earlier Land Cruiser FJ-style cars.
The cabin's horizontal dash layout, physical buttons, and driver-friendly control system all serve to emphasise that off-road functionality, not just luxury, was the primary consideration in its construction.
Toyota has outfitted the Land Cruiser FJ with powerful off-road gear. It is intended for true ruggedness because it has a body-on-frame chassis (based on the IMV O architecture shared with the Hilux-type cars) instead of a unibody arrangement.
The prototype's powertrain consists of a 2.7-liter 4-cylinder petrol engine (2TR-FE) with 246 Nm of torque and 161 bhp. It is mated to a 6-speed automated transmission and a 4WD system.
With dimensions of about 4,575 mm long, 1,854 mm wide, 1,960 mm tall, and a wheelbase of about 2,580 mm, it appears to have a comparatively modest footprint. This makes it smaller and more maneuverable than many full-size off-roaders.
Functional elements, including high ground clearance, a short wheelbase for improved turn-in and agility off-road, and detachable segmented bumpers that facilitate repairability and customisation, support the FJ's off-road credentials.
The model's interior features robust materials appropriate for adventure use and contemporary connection (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto).
By the middle of 2026, Toyota intends to introduce the Land Cruiser FJ in Japan, its native market. Other Asian and Latin American markets are probably going to follow.
There isn't currently a verified plan for markets in North America or Europe. According to Toyota's messaging, younger, energetic consumers looking for a more compact yet powerful off-road vehicle are the target market.
Although prices for all areas have not yet been made public, preliminary estimates for Japan indicate that the base variant will cost approximately ¥4–4.5 million (approx. ₹23–25 lakh).
Industry rumors indicate that, depending on demand and localisation viability, Toyota may introduce the Land Cruiser FJ to India by 2027 or later, though this has not yet been confirmed. Customers looking for a robust, lifestyle SUV with genuine off-road credentials and a heritage-backed emblem would find the model appealing as it would sit beneath the Fortuner.
