Testing of the Next-Gen Honda HR-V with a New Hybrid Engine Before Worldwide Debut
  • According to a spied test mule, the 2027 Honda HR-V will have updated design cues and a brand-new hybrid drivetrain.

  • With a more spacious cabin, the new SUV might get bigger, but given Honda's wider product strategy, the launch plans for India are still unclear.

A cleverly disguised prototype of Honda's next HR-V has been spotted in recent Japanese spy pictures, providing insight into the company's plans for the well-liked subcompact SUV. Important styling changes are becoming apparent, even though only the test car's back is visible.

In contrast to the current sleeker lighting design, the boot lid appears flatter and the taillights appear to be stacked vertically. Reflectors have been moved diagonally, although the bumper still has some recognizable features, suggesting a more modern overall appearance.

Additionally, observers pointed out that the prototype lacked a rear wiper. This would suggest that Honda is experimenting with a hidden wiper for a more aesthetically pleasing rear end and potentially better design integration.

A New Hybrid Powertrain Beneath the Bonnet

The anticipated hybrid drivetrain of the next-generation HR-V is among its most interesting prospects. Honda intends to use its second-generation e: HEV full-hybrid engine in this SUV.

A 1.5-liter, four-cylinder, normally aspirated engine coupled with a cutting-edge hybrid technology that combines performance and efficiency is most likely the power unit.

The S+ Shift system, a technology intended to replicate the experience of conventional gear changes and provide drivers with more interesting feedback, may be included in the HR-V in addition to the new engine. The package may also include paddle shift controls and a special sound system that would improve the driving experience even in the absence of an electric powertrain.

Greater, Smarter, and More Spacious

Although precise measurements are not disclosed by spy photos, industry rumours indicate that the 2027 HR-V may become marginally bigger than the current model, possibly providing a more roomy cabin.

In the fiercely competitive small SUV market, larger dimensions may also translate into more cargo room and more comfortable back seats, meeting consumer expectations.

A redesigned side profile with new alloy wheels and improved lighting, grille, and bumper designs are also anticipated on the front end.

Honda does not currently have any official intentions to launch the new HR-V in India. The business has nevertheless declared a more comprehensive product offensive that will comprise ten new models, seven of which will be SUVs. These will showcase Honda's dedication to important markets, such as Japan and the US, and will include mass-market to premium categories.
