Tata Sierra Official ARAI Mileage Figures Revealed for All Engine and Gearbox Options

For anyone sitting on the fence about the Tata Sierra, the one number that tends to tip the scales has finally arrived. Tata Motors announced the first set of prices for the Sierra back in November last year, starting at Rs. 11.49 lakh (ex-showroom), and the model is available across three engines and five powertrain options.
Now, the certified mileage figures for all variants are out, giving prospective buyers a much clearer picture of what to expect from their fuel bills.
The new Sierra is available with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol motor, paired with either a six-speed manual or a seven-speed DCT unit, delivering an ARAI-certified mileage of 17.40 kmpl and 16.90 kmpl, respectively.
These are fairly competitive numbers for a compact SUV of this size and segment, and the marginal difference between the manual and the automatic is reassuring for those who prefer the convenience of a self-shifting gearbox.
For drivers who want a bit more punch in their daily commute, the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol is offered exclusively with a six-speed torque converter automatic unit and returns an ARAI-certified mileage of 15.30 kmpl. That figure is understandably lower than the naturally aspirated version, and it reflects the trade-off that comes with forced induction.
Buyers who prioritise spirited driving over economy will find this engine far more satisfying in real-world conditions.
Those with longer commutes or a preference for diesel will find the numbers particularly appealing. The 1.5-litre diesel engine is paired with six-speed manual and torque converter automatic units, delivering an ARAI-certified fuel efficiency of 21.26 kmpl and 19.22 kmpl, respectively.
The manual gearbox variant, at 21.26 kmpl, is the most fuel-efficient option in the entire Sierra range by a significant margin, making it the natural choice for high-mileage users and those keeping a close eye on running costs.
It is worth remembering that ARAI figures are derived under controlled test conditions and will almost always differ from what you experience on Indian roads, particularly in city traffic. The turbo-petrol automatic has already been put through real-world testing, and the results of that exercise are available separately.
For the diesel manual, though, the certified figure of 21.26 kmpl is a strong starting point, and even with a real-world penalty factored in, efficiency should remain respectable.
With 20,000 units already finding homes across India and a waiting period of up to three months reported earlier this year, the Sierra is clearly resonating with buyers. The official mileage data only adds another layer of substance to a car that has been generating considerable interest since its launch.
