Tata Sierra Final Design Patented Ahead of Launch

Tata Motors has officially filed a patent for the production-ready Sierra ICE (internal combustion engine) version, giving us our first look at the final design of this highly anticipated SUV.

According to the leaked patent images, the production model stays remarkably faithful to the concept version that captured attention at its initial unveiling.

Design Elements Retained from Concept

The patent images confirm that Tata has preserved most of the key design elements from the concept, including:

  • Rectangular-shaped headlamp clusters

  • Distinctive fog lamp assembly

  • On the lower section of the bonnet, under a plastic panel is the air intake channel

However, some changes are evident in the production version. The bumper now features a large air dam with horizontal slats, which differs from what was shown on the concept model.

The SUV also sports a silver skid plate with a ribbed pattern and chrome embellishments that enhance its premium appearance.

Side Profile Highlights

The side profile of the production-ready Sierra showcases its commanding presence with several noteworthy features:

  • Newly-designed alloy wheels with petal-like elements

  • Pronounced C-pillar that pays homage to the original Sierra's design language

  • Flush door handles for a sleek, modern look

  • Robust body cladding that emphasizes its SUV credentials

  • 360-degree camera integrated into the ORVMs (outside rear-view mirrors)

Interior and Features

While Tata has yet to officially reveal the interior of the Sierra, information available indicates that the SUV will offer:

  • A premium triple-screen setup for the dashboard

  • Harrier-inspired four-spoke steering wheel with an illuminated logo in the center

  • Wireless phone charger

  • Panoramic sunroof

  • JBL sound system

  • Powered front seats with ventilation

  • Dual-zone automatic climate control

  • Front and rear parking sensors

  • 7 airbags

  • ISOFIX child seat mounts

  • Electronic stability control

  • Level 2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance system) suite

Powertrain Options

The Tata Sierra ICE version is expected to come with two engine options:

  1. 1.5L turbo petrol engine

  2. Power output: 170PS

  3. Torque: 280Nm

  4. 1.5L diesel engine

  5. Power output: 118PS

  6. Torque: 260Nm

Both engines will likely be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DCT automatic transmission. Details regarding the Sierra EV variant's powertrain are not available at this time.

Market Positioning and Expected Price

The Sierra will enter the competitive compact SUV segment as Tata's challenger to established rivals including the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara, Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and Honda Elevate.

Prices for the Tata Sierra are expected to start around Rs 10.50 lakh for the base variant, positioning it competitively within the segment.
