Tata Motors has officially announced the introduction of a CNG variant of its popular Nexon compact SUV for the financial year 2025. This variant, showcased in near-production form as the Nexon iCNG concept at the Bharat Mobility Show earlier this year, is eagerly anticipated.
The Nexon CNG will retain the same exterior and interior designs as well as equipment lists as the standard Nexon SUV. However, there may be a few CNG-specific mechanical upgrades to the suspension system and some iCNG badges to differentiate it within the lineup.
The Nexon CNG will be equipped with the same 1.2-liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine as its petrol counterparts, making it the first CNG vehicle in India to feature a turbocharged engine. Although Tata Motors recently introduced AMT variants of the Tiago and Tigor CNG, it remains unclear if the Nexon CNG will also come with this gearbox option.
Once launched, the Nexon will be unique in the Indian market for offering such a diverse range of powertrain options. These will include petrol, diesel, and CNG with multiple gearbox choices, in addition to an all-electric version. This diversity will set the Nexon apart, especially in competition with the Brezza CNG.
Alongside the Nexon CNG, Tata Motors is also set to launch the Curvv in both electric and internal combustion engine (ICE) iterations, as well as the Tata Harrier EV within this financial year.
