Suzuki Swift Sport Bids Farewell with Final Edition in Japan

The Suzuki Swift Sport, a beloved compact car, is concluding its journey in Japan with a special Final Edition model. This marks the end of an era for a vehicle that has been a favorite among drivers for its sporty performance and compact design.

A Look Back at the Swift Sport

Introduced in 2017, the Swift Sport quickly gained popularity for its lively 1.4-liter turbocharged engine, delivering 138 horsepower and 170 lb-ft of torque. Weighing just 975 kilograms, it offered a nimble and responsive driving experience.

In 2020, Suzuki updated the model to meet stricter emission standards, incorporating a 48-volt starter-generator, though the original high-power version remained available in Japan.

Introducing the Final Edition

Suzuki has unveiled the Swift Sport Final Edition exclusively for the Japanese market. This special version features distinctive black wheels, red brake calipers, and unique graphics on the C-pillar.

Inside, it boasts aluminum-effect inserts with a blue and red gradient pattern, adding to its unique appeal.

The Final Edition is priced at approximately ¥2,329,800 (around £11,900) for the manual transmission and ¥2,401,300 (around £12,300) for the automatic. Production is scheduled from March to November 2025, after which the Swift Sport will be retired.

Suzuki's Shift Towards Electric Vehicles

The discontinuation of the Swift Sport is part of Suzuki's broader strategy to transition towards electric vehicles (EVs). Alongside the Swift Sport, models like the Jimny, Ignis, and Swace are also being phased out to make way for new EV offerings.

In November 2024, Suzuki introduced its first mass-production battery electric vehicle, the eVITARA, in Milan, Italy. Production of the eVITARA is set to begin in India in Spring 2025, with availability planned for various countries, including India, Japan, and several European nations by the summer.

The Road Ahead for Suzuki

The launch of the eVITARA represents a significant milestone in Suzuki's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality. The company plans to expand its lineup of battery electric vehicles, offering a variety of options tailored to specific regions, including hybrids and compressed natural gas vehicles. This strategic shift underscores Suzuki's dedication to providing sustainable mobility solutions worldwide.

Overall, The Suzuki Swift Sport has enjoyed a successful run, captivating drivers with its spirited performance and compact charm.

As it takes its final bow with the exclusive Final Edition in Japan, Suzuki is steering towards an electrified future, embracing new technologies to meet the evolving demands of the automotive industry.

While the Swift Sport will be missed, the promise of innovative electric vehicles like the eVITARA signals an exciting new chapter for Suzuki and its customers.
