Skoda, VW Sales Breakup August 2024 – Taigun, Kushaq, Virtus, Slavia

In August 2024, Volkswagen and Skoda secured 9th and 11th places on the list of top car manufacturers in India, with market shares of 1.0% and 0.8% respectively. Despite YoY declines in sales, both companies experienced MoM growth – Volkswagen at 5% and Skoda at 32%.

Volkswagen Sales August 2024

Volkswagen sales saw a 14% YoY drop, with sales dipping from 4,174 units in August 2023 to 3,577 units in August 2024. However, MoM sales grew by 5%, with 3,407 units sold in July 2024. The Virtus sedan remained the best-selling model, despite a 12% YoY decline to 1,876 units, down from 2,140 units in August 2023. MoM, Virtus saw 6% growth, selling 1,766 units in July 2024.

The Taigun SUV also experienced lower demand with 1,628 units sold, marking a 16% YoY decline from 1,943 units in August 2023, but saw 4% MoM growth from 1,564 units sold in July 2024. The Tiguan, with just 73 units sold, saw a 20% YoY drop from 91 units sold in August 2023 and a 5% MoM decline compared to 77 units sold in July 2024.

Skoda Sales August 2024

Skoda faced a 36% YoY sales decline, with sales falling to 2,772 units in August 2024 from 4,307 units in August 2023. Despite the overall decline, MoM sales improved significantly, driven by models like the Kushaq and Slavia.

Kushaq led Skoda’s sales, with 1,502 units sold, representing a 38% YoY decline from 2,409 units in August 2023. MoM sales surged by 40%, up from 1,070 units sold in July 2024.

Slavia saw a 32% YoY drop to 1,122 units, down from 1,657 units sold in August 2023. However, MoM sales jumped by 41%, up from 793 units in July 2024.

Both the Kushaq and Slavia recently underwent revamps, with Skoda discontinuing the 1.5-liter MT variants, now offering them exclusively with automatic transmission.

Kodiaq sales suffered both YoY and MoM declines, with 145 units sold in August 2024, down from 241 units in August 2023 and 240 units in July 2024.

Superb sales remained low, with only 3 units sold in August 2024.

The Kodiaq facelift is set for launch in the second half of 2025, which could be a factor behind the declining sales of the current model.
