Pending Traffic Challan? Settle It Free Through Special Delhi Lok Adalat
  • Delhi's Special Lok Adalat will be held from August 21 to August 23, 2026, allowing eligible vehicle owners to settle pending traffic challans.

  • Eligible traffic offences like overspeeding, wrong parking, and seatbelt violations can often be settled with lower penalties, and in certain cases, the fine may be waived by the Lok Adalat.

Many vehicle owners postpone clearing old traffic challans due to lengthy legal procedures, multiple court visits and uncertainty about the settlement process. To make resolving pending traffic violations easier, Delhi is once again organising a Special Lok Adalat where eligible challans can be settled through a simplified process.

The initiative aims to reduce the backlog of pending traffic cases while providing motorists with an easier way to resolve compoundable traffic violations. However, not every challan qualifies for settlement and vehicle owners must complete the required online registration before attending the Lok Adalat

How to Register for Traffic Challan Settlement

Vehicle owners wishing to settle their pending challan must complete the online registration process before visiting the Lok Adalat.

The process generally includes:

  • Visit the official Delhi Traffic Police or DSLSA portal.

  • Enter your vehicle registration number or challan number.

  • Book an available slot online.

  • Generate and download the token.

  • Carry the token along with the challan printout and required documents on the scheduled date.

Which Traffic Challans can be Settled?

The Special Lok Adalat is primarily meant for compoundable traffic violations, including relatively minor offences. Only challans that have been forwarded to the traffic court and are listed for the Special Lok Adalat are eligible for settlement.

Eligible cases generally include:

  • Helmet-related violations

  • Seat belt violations

  • Overspeeding

  • Wrong parking

  • Other minor traffic offences

For eligible cases, the Lok Adalat may reduce the payable penalty or settle the challan based on the nature of the offence and applicable legal provisions. The final decision rests with the Lok Adalat.

Which Challans are not Covered?

Not every traffic offence can be resolved through the Lok Adalat. Serious offences generally remain outside its scope, including:

  • Drunk driving

  • Cases involving major road accidents

  • Other serious traffic offences that require regular judicial proceedings

Such matters must continue through the normal legal process.

What Should Vehicle Owners Do?

If you have an old pending traffic challan in Delhi, it is advisable to first verify whether your case is eligible for settlement under the upcoming Special Lok Adalat. Eligible motorists should complete online registration well in advance and attend the hearing on their allotted date with all required documents.

The Special Lok Adalat offers vehicle owners a quicker and more convenient way to resolve eligible pending traffic challans without lengthy court proceedings. However, the final settlement depends on the nature of the offence and the decision taken by the Lok Adalat in each individual case.
