Palghar district in Maharashtra is getting a new sub-regional Transport Office (RTO) with vehicle code MH-60. Cars registered in Palghar will now carry MH-60 on their number plates.
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik announced the approval after a public meeting, fulfilling a promise he made in April. Palghar has about 3 million people, so having its own RTO is long overdue. The new office will be Maharashtra’s 36th sub-regional RTO.
Until now, Palghar residents had to travel out of the district for RTO services. The nearest offices were in Vasai-Virar or Thane, about 50 km away by road. A trip of that length can take an hour or more each way in traffic.
The new RTO will be in Palghar (likely near Palghar town), cutting most journeys to just a few kilometers. A one-way trip that once took 50 minutes could shrink to 10 minutes. That saves drivers a lot of time and fuel on each visit.
The new RTO will handle vehicle registrations, driver’s licenses, permits and taxes right in the district. Locals won’t have to stand in long lines at faraway offices. Instead, they can visit the Palghar RTO for quicker paperwork.
This will clear backlogs and make sure more vehicles are properly registered. Local bus and truck operators will also benefit, since renewing permits will be faster. Overall, moving these services closer is expected to speed up many routine tasks.
For people in Palghar, this change is a big relief. A trip that used to take half a day will soon be just a quick drive.
That means families and workers save hundreds of rupees on travel each year. A local taxi or truck driver, for example, can file paperwork and get back on the road in minutes.
