Nissan Motor India Unveils Ambitious Expansion Plans and Export Strategy
Nissan Motor India is ready for a seismic shift with plans to broaden its product range and sharpen its export skills as the Japanese automaker has crafted a strategy to exploit export opportunities and supply chain diversification.
Making news in the automotive sector, Makoto Uchida the CEO of Nissan Motor Corporation around the globe through Renault in India, declared that the organization is making massive changes in its product line and sales & marketing channel, especially in the Indian market.
Nissan`s reengineered strategy consists of building on four existing models which are expected to be added to the range in the following three years. The company is envisaging manufacturing the EV, which is evidence of a pivotal step in the direction of augmented greener mobility options.
The main objective of new Nissan’s strategy is to shift towards a balanced operation that is reflected in the volume of exports which is roughly 50% of overall production in India. At present, a significant export component is present, the only model sold domestically being the Vision compact SUV.
Guillaume Cartier, AMIEO head of the Nissan Motor Corporation, pointed out India as a country crucial for the application of the company's schema in the middle-term perspective. He mentioned that Nissan will be covering more segments with vehicles by broadening its lineup and also be ready for the EV era.
Nissan plans to increase significantly its capacity production at Oragadam in Chennai by the next fiscal (FY26) to export around 100,000 units. At present, the Chennai plant, built in collaboration with Renault, possesses a combined production capacity of about 480,000 vehicles per year.
In FY23, Nissan Motor India shipped 60k units which make up 64% of its total sales volume. In addition to this, the company undertakes to supply an extra 40,000 units year by year, as per plan and support by its alliance partner, and considering India as a district export centre.
With plans to continue leveraging its alliance assets and technical centre in India, Nissan is poised for significant growth in the coming years. The company's ambitious expansion plans underscore its commitment to the Indian market and its strategic importance in Nissan's global operations.
