Next-Gen Jeep Compass Breaks Cover: Bigger, Bolder & Electrified

Jeep formally unveiled the all-new next-generation Compass SUV at a bold new turn in its evolution. Based on Stellantis' STLA Medium platform, the third-gen Compass has been engineered to support several powertrains—including mild-hybrid to plug-in hybrid (PHEV) and, for the first time ever, a full-electric Compass.

Visually, the styling is evolutionary, not radical. It takes cues from Jeep's smaller Avenger and larger Grand Cherokee, combining muscular dimensions with signature Jeep touches such as the seven-slot grille. Improvements include reinforced bumpers, restyled LED Matrix headlamps, trapezoidal wheel arches, and active aero elements such as grille shutters and air ducts for greater efficiency.

Off-Road-Ready with Improved Suspension

As with Jeep's DNA, the new Compass is more off-road capable. It has 200 mm of ground clearance, and approach, breakover, and departure angles of 20°, 15°, and 26°, respectively. AWD versions increase those numbers to 27°, 16°, and 31° with added suspension lift.

Hill Descent Control and Select-Terrain drive modes are standard on AWD trims, along with new dampers, springs, and an anti-roll bar for improved handling and comfort.

Additional Cabin Room and Technology Features

Benefiting from its extended wheelbase, the cabin feels significantly larger. Jeep states 55 mm more legroom, added storage, and a bigger 550-litre boot.

On the inside, the new design has a 10-inch digital instrument cluster, an enormous 16-inch infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connection, and Level 2 ADAS with semi-automatic lane change, head-up display, and OTA updates.

Powertrain Options and EV Details

The Compass now has several electrified variants:

  • 143 bhp mild-hybrid (48V)

  • 192 bhp plug-in hybrid

  • 210 bhp front-wheel-drive EV

  • 370 bhp AWD EV with dual motors and 650 km range (WLTP)

The EV has 160 kW DC fast charging capability, which provides a 20–80% top-up in only 30 minutes.

Launch in India is not yet confirmed

Although the new Compass will be made in Italy for European markets, its India launch remains undecided. Though the current Compass is manufactured in India, Stellantis has yet to speak about whether the new-gen variant will be launched here.
