The MG Cloud EV has recently been spotted testing in India, generating significant buzz as its launch is anticipated in September 2024. While the spy shots revealed limited details, the India-spec model is expected to mirror the international version, known globally as the Wuling Cloud EV. Here’s a comprehensive look at what to expect from this upcoming electric crossover.
The globally available MG Cloud EV features a sleek design with rounded elements at the front. The fascia showcases width-spanning LED DRLs, with headlamps positioned in a separate lower housing. The sides are flat with flush door handles and 18-inch aerodynamically designed silver alloy wheels. The rear maintains a simple look with connected LED tail lights.
Inside, the Cloud EV sports a minimalistic cabin highlighted by a large touchscreen. The dashboard incorporates multiple layers of materials, including wood and bronze elements. The interior maintains a dark theme with black leatherette upholstery and contrasting bronze stitching.
In international markets, the Cloud EV is equipped with a 50.6 kWh battery pack paired with a single front-wheel-drive electric motor generating 136 PS and 200 Nm of torque. It boasts a CLTC-claimed range of 460 km. However, the Indian version might have a different range as per ARAI standards.
For charging, the EV supports DC fast charging, allowing the battery to charge from 30-100% in around 30 minutes. Using a home AC charger, the battery can recharge from 20-100% in approximately 7 hours.
The MG Cloud EV is packed with features, including:
15.6-inch free-floating touchscreen infotainment system
8.8-inch digital driver’s display
6-way powered driver seat
Automatic climate control with rear AC vents
Wireless phone charger
Safety features include:
4 airbags (potentially 6 in the India-spec model)
ABS with EBD
Electronic stability control (ESC)
Tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS)
Hill hold assist
Electronic parking brake
360-degree camera
Advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS) such as adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and autonomous emergency braking.
The MG Cloud EV is expected to be priced at around Rs 20 lakh (ex-showroom). It will serve as a premium alternative to the Tata Nexon EV and Mahindra XUV400, while also being a more affordable option compared to the MG ZS EV.
As the launch date approaches, more detailed information about the India-specific features and specifications of the MG Cloud EV will be available, potentially making it a significant contender in the Indian EV market.
