Maruti Suzuki Fronx Launch In India
The new Maruti Suzuki Fronx is a crossover based on the new-gen Maruti Suzuki Baleno and is Rs. 86,000 more expensive than the premium hatchback.
The Fronx was introduced by Maruti Suzuki at Rs 7.46 lakh for the base Sigma trim and Rs 13.14 lakh for the top-spec Alpha turbo variant. The Baleno-based coupe crossover debuted at Auto Expo in January, and reservations for a pittance of Rs 11,000 were already being taken. The Fronx costs Rs 86,000 more than the Baleno at the starting price, but the top end is significantly more expensive because it also has a turbo-petrol engine.
The new Fornx also offers 20 mm more ground clearance than the Baleno and borrows design elements from the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara. For instance, the split headlight setup, along with the honeycomb mesh nexwave grille, is something we have seen in the Grand Vitara already. The new Fronx is offered in seven colors—Arctic White, Earthern Brown, Opulent Red, Splendid Silver, Bluish Black, Celestial Blue, and Grandeur Grey—and five trims—Sigma, Delta, Delta+, Zeta, and Alpha. Additionally, Earthern Brown, Opulent Red, and Splendid Silver color options also come in dual-tone variations. In terms of engines, the 1.0-liter Boosterjet turbo-petrol engine is back with the Fronx.
The Fronx with the turbo booster jet engine will have a six-speed automatic gearbox or a five-speed manual gearbox with paddle shifters mounted on the steering wheel. A 1.2-liter K-Series dual Jet, dual VVT petrol engine with idle start-stop technology will also be available to buyers. A five-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic gear shift (AGS) automatic transmission are both options for this engine. The engine put out 89 bhp and 113 Nm of torque.
The Maruti Suzuki Fronx also incorporates some Baleno hatchback design cues into its exteriors, such as the rising waistline, which has a noticeable hunch over the rear wheels, and the sloping roofline. The Fronx is comparable to the Baleno in size at 3,995mm long, 1,550mm high, and 1,765mm wide. The Fronx's interior resembles the Baleno hatchback, with a large, free-standing, 9-inch touchscreen as the centerpiece. However, the colors and textures used are different from the Baleno. While the interior of the compact SUV is black and brown, that of the hatchback is blue and black.
The feature list, which is nearly identical between the two models, includes conveniences like a head-up display with turn-by-turn navigation, a 360-degree camera view, an Arkamys surround sound system, wireless smartphone charging, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and connected car technology, among others.
Six airbags (driver, co-driver, side, and curtain), three-point seatbelts, electronic stability program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist (HHA) and rollover mitigation, anti-clockwise braking system (ABS) with electronic brakeforce distribution (EBD), and ISOFIX child seat mounts are just a few of the features on the safety list.
The Renault Kiger, Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet, and Maruti Suzuki Brezza are a few of the compact SUVs that the Fronx is expected to compete against.
