Maruti Suzuki’s Jimny 5-Door has quickly gained popularity as a compact off-roader in India’s growing lifestyle SUV segment. However, a recurring issue among Jimny owners – the “steering wobble” or “death wobble” – prompted the company to take action.
To resolve this, Maruti Suzuki has issued a free service bulletin aimed at fixing the problem for affected owners.
The steering wobble issue in the Jimny occurs when braking at speeds between 80 km/h and 60 km/h. Many owners, particularly those with vehicles under 5,000 km on the odometer, reported mild wobbling in the steering.
However, this problem has also been observed in vehicles with higher mileage.
The root cause has been identified as faulty brake components, specifically the Kingpin assembly and front brake discs. The premature wear of these parts leads to the steering wobble, impacting the driving experience.
Maruti Suzuki has rolled out a service bulletin that provides free inspections and replacements for vehicles showing signs of the issue. Here’s what the process entails:
Affected vehicles are inspected at Nexa service centers.
The testing process is documented via video to ensure transparency.
If the wobble is confirmed, the Kingpin assembly and front brake discs are replaced free of charge under warranty.
The service bulletin is not a recall but is aimed only at vehicles exhibiting the problem.
Only vehicles with stock 195/80-R15 tyres are eligible.
Modified vehicles with aftermarket tyres are not covered under this service.
If you are experiencing the steering wobble issue, here’s what you should do:
Visit your nearest Nexa service center for an inspection.
Ensure your vehicle is running on stock tyres to qualify for the free service.
If the problem is confirmed, the service team will replace the faulty components at no cost.
Vehicles not showing symptoms of the issue will not receive replacements.
The replacement process depends on the severity and necessity as determined by the service center personnel.
Nexa service centers have already started addressing the issue for affected vehicles.
Maruti Suzuki’s proactive approach in addressing the Jimny steering wobble issue showcases its commitment to customer satisfaction. By offering free replacements for affected vehicles, the brand aims to restore the trust and confidence of its customers.
If you’re a Jimny owner experiencing this problem, don’t delay in getting your vehicle inspected at an authorized Nexa service center.
