McLaren appears to be gradually reclaiming its glory days, with its F1 team securing two race victories this season. In a nod to the brand’s achievements, Lego Technic has honored the P1, the pioneering high-performance hybrid vehicle, with a 1:8 scale model.
Lego continues its tradition of meticulous attention to detail with the McLaren P1 model, comprising 3,983 pieces. This substantial build results in a model that stands over 5.5 inches in height, 23 inches in length, and 9.5 inches in width.
The Lego version of McLaren’s "best driver’s car in the world on both road and track" features a 7-speed gearbox with 2 shifter drums, suspension, a V8 piston engine, an adjustable rear wing, and dihedral doors with an advanced opening mechanism.
The fully assembled McLaren P1 model from Lego will be available at Lego stores and online globally starting August 1. Priced at $449 (approximately Rs 37,500), this model aims to be a hit among both Lego and McLaren enthusiasts.
Kasper Rene Hansen, Designer at the LEGO Group, commented on the project: “From the exterior with aerodynamic shapes to the interior and V8 piston engine – the real McLaren P1 is an incredible car. We wanted to capture these details in the best way possible with our LEGO Technic model and we did not want to compromise in any way.”
He further added, “Therefore, we worked on multiple variations of the car to test different designs. We also faced a huge challenge with the iconic butterfly doors because they needed a new mechanism to stay open. It was a great experience to recreate the McLaren P1 and I’m hoping all supercar enthusiasts out there are ready to explore the details and intricacies of the real McLaren P1 in LEGO Technic form.”
The launch of this detailed model is a celebration of both Lego’s engineering prowess and McLaren’s automotive excellence, offering a unique and immersive building experience for fans.
