Kia India has introduced the Carens with a new 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine. The 1.5-turbo promises improved performance and fuel efficiency, replacing the 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engine in the Alcazar and the 1.4-turbo in the Carens. Four models of the Carens with a 1.5-turbo Petrol engine will be offered, with pricing starting at Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Carens' brand-new 1.5-turbo petrol engine produces 160 horsepower and 260 Nm of torque. A 6-speed iMT and a 7-speed DCT are the only two gearbox choices; a manual gearbox is unavailable. The new engine is the sole noticeable alteration to the Carens' exterior, which is otherwise unaltered.
The Carens provides customers with two additional engine choices in addition to the recently announced 1.5-turbo Petrol engine. The first is a 1.5-turbocharged diesel engine that produces 250 Nm of torque and 115 horsepower. A 6-speed automatic and a 6-speed iMT transmission are compatible with this engine. The second engine is a 1.5-litre NA petrol engine with 115 horsepower and 145 Nm of torque. This engine may only be used with a 6-speed manual transmission.
A host of goodies are available in the Carens, including a 10.25-inch touchscreen with linked car technology, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, automatic climate control, keyless entry, ventilated front seats, and more. The safety features include six airbags, ABS, ESC, hill start and descent control, and a tyre pressure monitoring system. The MPV competes with vehicles in the market, including the Mahindra Marazzo, Hyundai Alcazar, Maruti Ertiga, and Maruti XL6.
