Jammu-Srinagar National Highway Closed for Repairs, Traffic Suspended to Several Destinations
Minister officials have confirmed that the Jammu-Srinagar national highway that connects the Kashmir Valley with the rest of the country has been closed for traffic today Tuesday. Although the authorities have not come out clearly to tell the public the reason for the closure, insiders have disclosed that the said highway has been closed for some necessary repairing and renovating exercise.
The closure of the highway has also led to the suspension of traffic between Jammu and various other destinations, including Chenani, Patnitop, Doda, Ramban, Gool, Banihal, and Srinagar. This has caused significant disruptions for travellers and commuters who rely on this route for daily travel, as well as for the transport of goods and services.
However, officials have assured that alternative routes remain operational. Specifically, traffic is still moving on the Mughal Road and the Bhaderwah-Chamba Road, providing some relief for those affected by the highway closure.

In a separate incident, a 45-year-old woman from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) was repatriated in Poonch on Tuesday. Naseem Fatma, a resident of Sakhi Nath village in Kotli district, was detained on Saturday night after inadvertently crossing into the Indian side in the Nowshera sector of Rajouri district.
The Indian Army promptly established contact with their Pakistani counterparts to facilitate her return. Officials confirmed that she was handed over to the Pakistan Army along the Line of Control (LoC) and safely returned to her family. This incident underscores the ongoing challenges and humanitarian considerations along the contentious border regions.
In another significant development, People's Conference leader Imran Ansari has been booked for allegedly manhandling a police officer and a polling official during the voting process at a booth in Baramulla district on Monday. The incident has attracted considerable attention, prompting Chief Electoral Officer PK Pole to seek a report from the Baramulla Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to clarify the circumstances surrounding the altercation.
