Passenger Vehicle Sales: Industry Records 12.9 Per Cent Growth, Highest-Ever April Sales; SIAM

The Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM) data indicates passenger vehicle sales of 3,31,278 units.

The SIAM data confirms that the passenger vehicle sale for April 2023 stood at 3,31,278 units as opposed to 2,93,303 units for the same period in 2022, showing a significant uptick of 12.9 per cent. Similarly, the two-wheeler segment clocked a good 13,28,588 units compared to 11,62,582 units for the previous year, clocking a 15.1 per cent increase in growth. The three-wheeler sales also experienced a positive hike in sales, registering 42,885 units as opposed to 20,997 units for the last year, marking a significant growth.

Vinod Aggarwal, President of SIAM, Vinod Aggarwal said, “All the segments viz. Passenger Vehicles, Two-Wheelers and Three-Wheelers have posted growth in April 2023, compared to April 2022, which clearly indicates that Industry has been able to transit very smoothly to BS 6 Phase 2 Emission Norms from 1st April 2023. As we gradually get into the monsoon season, among other factors, good rainfall can also help the Auto Industry sustain its growth.”

The passenger four-wheeler hatchback segment witnessed a healthy 15,192 unit sales for April 2023. It included cars like Renault Kwid, Maruti Suzuki Alto and Espresso, to name a few. The sedan space sold 1,00,377 units, comprised of products like the Honda Amaze, Hyundai Aura, and Maruti Suzuki Dzire, among others.

The SUV space saw a strong number of 66,975 units and included the likes of the Honda WR-V, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Renault Kiger and Mahindra Thar, to name a few. The two-wheeler segment from 90-125 cc clocked 4,43,668 units for April 2023 and included models like Piaggia Vespa, Hero Pleasure, Suzuki Access and TVS Ntorq, to name a few.
