India-Made Maruti Fronx Earns 4-Star Safety Rating in Japan NCAP: A Big Win for Indian Engineering

In a proud moment for India's automotive sector, the Maruti Suzuki Fronx, made entirely in India, has received a 4-star rating in Japan NCAP crash tests.

The compact SUV received a strong 84% overall (163.75/193.8) and was able to demonstrate its capability on the global stage with its active and passive safety.

Outstanding Preventive Safety Technology

The Fronx predictably received a strong endorsement in the preventive safety category from the Japan NCAP panel, achieving an impressive score of 92% (79.42 of 85.8 points).

The Fronx received full marks (5/5) for its Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) in both pedestrian and bicyclist scenarios, both day and night.

The car also achieved good scores in the other driver assist systems:

  • Lane Departure Prevention Assist - 5/5

  • High Performance Headlights - 4/5

  • Pedal Misapplication Prevention - 4/5

  • AEB at Intersections - 3/5

These systems are evidence of Maruti Suzuki introducing new high-tech safety features to its international vehicle line-up, especially in markets like Japan.

Solid Collision Protection Performance

In terms of collision safety, the Fronx scored 76% (76.33 out of 100), which included passenger protection (52.29 points) and pedestrian safety (24.05 points).

  • Side Impact Crash (Driver’s Seat) - 5/5

  • Pedestrian Leg Protection - 5/5

  • Neck Injury Protection (Rear Impact) - 4/5

  • Pedestrian Head Protection - 3/5

For all tests, the maximum speed was 55 kmph, representing typical urban crash conditions.

Built in India, Exported to Japan

The Maruti Suzuki Fronx is made in India, and this model becomes the second Made-in-India Maruti to be exported to Japan, after the Baleno. The price starts at ₹7.5 lakh (ex-showroom) and has six variants with three powertrain choices in India:

  • 1.2L NA Petrol

  • 1.2L CNG

  • 1.0L Turbo petrol

For the Japanese market, it will have additional features such as 4WD and 1.5L mild-hybrid.
