Hyundai Unveils Innovative Mobion Concept, Showcasing Revolutionary In-Wheel Technology

In a groundbreaking display of automotive innovation, Hyundai has introduced the Mobion concept, a futuristic electric vehicle (EV) based on the Ioniq 5 platform. Unlike any other, the Mobion boasts a distinctive ability to crabwalk, challenging conventional notions of vehicular mobility.

Hyundai Mobis, the parts group behind this avant-garde concept, has equipped the Mobion with an extraordinary e-corner system, allowing each wheel to rotate independently. The standout feature, however, is the capability of the wheels to rotate more than 90 degrees, enabling lateral movement, pivot turns, and even sharp doughnuts, making it a truly unique addition to the world of electric vehicles.

This cutting-edge technology, named "In-Wheel tech" by Hyundai Mobis, comprises an individual electric motor, steering, braking, and suspension system for each wheel. By eliminating axle shafts and additional brake components, the Mobion achieves unparalleled agility, showcasing the culmination of advanced engineering.

While the Mobion's crabwalk feature may draw comparisons to the Hummer EV, it distinguishes itself by its intricate articulation, surpassing the four-wheel steering systems found in some contemporary vehicles. Hyundai Mobis has emphasised the complexity of the Mobion's technology, which promises a heightened level of control and manoeuvrability.

The Mobion also introduces a revolutionary exterior lighting system to communicate with other road users. This system not only alerts drivers to potential hazards, such as pedestrians crossing but can also project messages onto the ground, indicating the car's intended direction.

Although the Mobion is currently a concept, Hyundai Mobis has hinted at an even more advanced version in the pipeline. While full-scale production of such technology may not be imminent, Hyundai enthusiasts can anticipate the gradual integration of elements from the Mobion concept into future production models.

The Ioniq 5, the EV platform upon which the Mobion is based, is already making waves in India, available for purchase at a starting price of Rs 45.95 lakh (ex-showroom). As Hyundai continues to push the boundaries of electric mobility, the Mobion concept is a testament to the brand's commitment to pioneering advancements in the automotive industry.
