Hyundai Ioniq 9 Flagship SUV Set for Global Debut This Year
Hyundai is gearing up to unveil its flagship electric SUV, the Ioniq 9, by the end of this year. This new electric seven-seater, developed alongside the Kia EV9, is an evolution of the Seven concept showcased three years ago. The Ioniq 9 is poised to compete directly with high-end electric models such as the Volvo EX90 and the BMW iX.
The Ioniq 9 will be built on an extended version of the e-GMP platform, sharing much of its architecture with the Kia EV9. It is expected to feature a 99.8 kWh battery pack and offer both 203hp single-motor and 383 hp dual-motor configurations. Additionally, a high-performance N variant is anticipated, potentially incorporating a 650hp dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain, similar to the Ioniq 5 N.
Although initially referred to as the Ioniq 7, the flagship SUV has been renamed to avoid confusion with the EV9. The Ioniq 9 will have a more rounded design compared to the blockier EV9, closely resembling the Hyundai Seven concept. However, it will not feature the concept's frameless windows or rear suicide doors. Like the EV9, the Ioniq 9 will include a three-row seating layout.
Inside, the Ioniq 9 is expected to reflect the design language of newer Hyundai models, such as the Santa Fe and the upcoming Palisade. The cabin will likely feature multiple screens, soft-touch materials, and accents of faux wood and aluminum. Physical controls for audio and climate will be retained, with less critical functions integrated into a touch panel. The gear selector will resemble the twisting dial found in the Santa Fe.
Further details about the Hyundai Ioniq 9 will be disclosed as the global debut approaches later this year.
