Hyundai Creta Leads the Jan-Jul 2025 Car Sales in India

Again, the Hyundai Creta has further cemented its popularity in the Indian car industry by recording a total of 1,17,458 units of sales between January and July 2025.

By doing that, it overtook all other passenger vehicles, which included long-term dominators of the hatchback and sedan categories, and also became the biggest-selling car in India in general during the period.

Reliable Development in the Face of Hard Competition

Indeed, the mid-size SUV industry is beginning to become slightly swamped-- with other models such as the Kia Seltos, Maruti Grand Vitara and Toyota Hyryder providing feature-rich options at an arguably reasonable price. Yet, somehow, the Jeep Creta has been able to stay on top.

Hyundai managed to sell 15,786 units alone in June 2025 and again became the highest-selling SUV as well as the highest-selling vehicle of all categories in the 3rd consecutive month.

In Q4 FY25 (January March ) the Creta also performed well with 52,898 units being sold. Putting it together, the SUV made 1,94,871 units in FY25, which translated to a healthy 20 per cent YoY growth and the third-largest selling vehicle of the financial year.

Celebrating 10 Years of the Creta in India

The Creta, which was first launched in 2015, has become a decade old in the Indian market where it has sold more than 12 lakh units. Initially a move by Hyundai to venture into the premium compact SUV segment, the car has turned out to be its signature model.

Since it sold 92,926 units in 2016, the increase has been phenomenal up to 1,86,919 units in 2024.

Important attributes such as the panoramic sunroof have turned into a massive hit- 70 percent of all the bookings at present. First-time buyers have also been significantly on the rise, making its way up to 29 percent in 2024 and 12 percent in 2020, demonstrating the attractive nature of Creta to the outside of conventional SUV customers.

Hyundai Creta has a 31 per cent market share in the mid-size SUV segment, thanks to its regular updates, a wide spread of powertrain options (petrol, diesel, turbo), robust after-sales network, and good resale value that have made the Creta so successful for so long.

The formula followed by the Hyundai Creta of keeping up with the demand of the customer, that is providing style, technology and performance, keeps the product not only relevant but a leading vehicle in the market over the years.
