Hyundai Motor India opened Hyundai Bayon bookings on September 23, 2026, and unveiled the India-spec SUV in Gurugram on October 12, 2026. Hyundai calls it an Intelligent Utility Vehicle. The Bayon is a new model, not a special edition or a new variant of an existing Hyundai. It is a 4.2 m petrol SUV that the company places in the mid-size segment.

Hyundai Bayon Bookings and Launch Date

According to the company, bookings are open on its website and at authorised dealerships with a token amount of Rs 11,000. Hyundai has not stated whether the amount is refundable.

At the October 12 unveiling, Hyundai Motor India confirmed the Hyundai Bayon launch date as October 26, 2026. Deliveries are planned for the festive season, with exact timelines due at launch. Managing Director and CEO Tarun Garg said the focus is on artificial intelligence (AI), connectivity and software updates.

Design and Size

The Bayon gets a sculpted bonnet, H-Edge LED daytime running lights (DRLs), geometric wheel arches, wrap-around door cladding and bridge-type roof rails. At 4.2 m long, Hyundai claims good legroom, headroom and shoulder room. Boot space has not been confirmed.

Hyundai Bayon Features and Safety

The headline item is Hyundai Motor India's first generative AI voice assistant. According to the company, it uses Intelligence by Perplexity, with voice AI by SoundHound AI, and can handle trip, weather and hotel requests. It works in English only.

The Connected Car Navigation Cockpit (ccNC) groups navigation and controls on a 12.3 inch (31.24 cm) screen, which Hyundai says is accelerated by NVIDIA technology. Two 12.3 inch curved displays sit side by side as one panoramic panel, 62.5 cm across in total. Hyundai Bluelink brings more than 70 connected features. Up to 19 controllers can take Controller Over-the-Air (C-OTA) updates, subject to rollout and network. The wider system supports 12 languages and over 500 embedded voice commands that work offline for set functions.

The Bayon sits on the Global K Enhanced Platform. Hyundai says it is engineered for 5-star Indian safety standards, but that is based on an internal assessment, not an independent crash test.

Engine and Specifications

The only engine is a four-cylinder 1.5 litre multi-point injection (MPi) petrol, paired with a 6-speed manual or an Intelligent Variable Transmission (IVT), Hyundai's name for its CVT-type automatic.

  • Engine: 1.5 litre MPi petrol, four-cylinder
  • Power and torque: 115 PS and 144 Nm (14.7 kgm), company claim
  • Gearbox: 6-speed manual or IVT automatic
  • Body and length: SUV, 4.2 m
  • Fuel economy: Not announced

A Quick Note: output figures are company-stated. Type approval has been applied for, and certified fuel economy is awaited.

Why Now

An October 26 launch puts the price announcement just before festive season deliveries, when many families buy a car. It also falls in Hyundai Motor India's 30th year in the country.

What It Means for Buyers

For now, Hyundai Bayon bookings get you an early place in the queue with few firm details. You know it is a 4.2 m petrol SUV with a manual or automatic choice.

We do not yet know the Hyundai Bayon price, the variants, the mileage, the boot space or the delivery date.

Before paying Rs 11,000, ask your dealer whether the amount is refundable, when your delivery slot is likely, and whether you will pay the price at booking or at delivery.
