Here’s everything you need to know about the brand-new Mercedes-AMG S 63 E

The new AMG S 63 E Performance, which costs Rs 3.30 crore (ex-showroom) in India, has been introduced by Mercedes-Benz. The 4.0-liter V8 plug-in hybrid engine in this S-Class model makes it the most potent model in the lineup. After the GT63 S E Performance, this is Mercedes's second plug-in hybrid vehicle available in India. The automobile also has exclusive AMG exterior and interior design modifications.

Engine and Specifications

A 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine, a 13.1-kWh battery, and an electric motor mounted on the back axle power the AMG S 63 E Performance. With an overall system output of 802 horsepower and 1,430 Nm, the electric motor alone generates 190 horsepower and 320 Nm of torque. The Mercedes Formula 1 team served as the model for the battery technology.

Power is sent to all four wheels via the 4Matic system, which is mated to a 9-speed automatic gearbox. With its 'Race Start' mode engaged, the vehicle accelerates as fast as possible, reaching 100 kph in just 3.3 seconds. The S 63 has eight driving modes, including an all-electric mode with a top speed of 125 kph and a range of up to 33 km. In addition, the vehicle incorporates air suspension, active roll bars for improved handling, rear-axle steering, and optional carbon ceramic brakes.

Exterior Design

The S 63 boasts a unique AMG appearance, which includes a larger front bumper with massive air intakes, a pronounced chin, an AMG-specific rear diffuser with four exhaust pipes, and a Panamericana grille—a first for the S-Class.

There are two external package options: the Night package adds gloss black or dark chrome highlights, while the Carbon Fiber package adds carbon fibre elements to the side sills, rear diffuser, front bumper, and mirrors. Twenty-inch, 10-spoke alloy wheels are standard on the S 63, however 21-inch wheels are an option.

Interior and Features

The S 63's interior has redesigned AMG pedals and a four-spoke steering wheel. With a special "Super Sport" theme, AMG and hybrid-specific displays and features are included in the most recent MBUX software. The main feature of the dashboard is a 12.8-inch OLED touchscreen. Level 2 advanced driver-assistance systems (ADAS), 64-color ambient lighting, a Burmester 3D surround sound system, and 4-zone climate control are among the standard amenities.

Executive lounge chairs, a rear-seat entertainment package, a detachable tablet in the center armrest, an augmented reality heads-up display, and folding tables for the rear seats are among the optional extras. Additionally, customers can select from a variety of Nappa leather upholstery options, as well as wood or carbon fibre dashboard trims.

Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance Edition 1

A limited-edition S 63 E Performance Edition 1 model is also available from Mercedes for Rs 3.80 crore. Edition 1 comes with a special Manufaktur Alpine Grey exterior paint, matte black 21-inch forged AMG wheels, red brake callipers, and the AMG Night package as standard, all for an additional Rs 50 lakh.

Inside, it features the AMG Exclusive package with black Nappa leather upholstery, red stitching, AMG crests on the headrests, black and red carbon-fibre trim on the dashboard, and an 'Edition 1' plaque on the centre console.
