In case you have been delaying paying your E challan, you may ring a jubilant bell because the next Lok Adalat in India is due on 13 September, 2025, and this may provide you with an opportunity to get a pending traffic challan waived, or drastically reduced.
However, before you go to the session wishing to have a clean slate, it is crucial to know what kind of challans can qualify and which ones cannot.
Lok Adalats are special sitting sessions where minor traffic offences are easily handled at a lower rate of penalty. The following are the categories of offences which are likely to be heard:
Seatbelt or helmet Non-use
Jumping of red lights
Over-speeding or Speed limit violation
Carrying an invalid PUC certificate
Driving without car fitness certificate
Parking in non- parking areas

But, serious traffic offences are not strictly taken within the model of quick settlement of Lok Adalat. These include:
Drunk driving
Hit-and-run cases
Injury or death by negligent operation of a motor vehicle
A minor driving the Vehicle
Unallowed racing or speed trials
Criminal use of a vehicle
Challans that are related to a case in progress
Out-of-state or jurisdiction challans
Suppose your E challan was given in Noida, you will not be able to come to Delhi or Gurugram Lok Adalat to decide this, you will have to go to the relevant court of the state where your challan was given.
In order to take part in Lok Adalat:
Register at the official portal.
Print off your letter about the appointment and token number.
It should be remembered that you have to arrive 30 minutes before your appointment date and bring all appropriate documents, identification with you.
