Ferrari has unveiled its brand-new 296 GT3 race car, which will take the place of the wildly popular 488 GT3 that has earned 429 victories in standard and Evo forms. A race debut for the 296 GT3 has been planned for 2023, and track testing is expected to start soon.

The 296 GT3 is based on the conventional 296 GTB coupe and features an aggressive, aerodynamic appearance that was first revealed via a set of designs. A noticeable splitter, two sizable canards on either side of the bumper, and several air vents on either side of the bonnet are now part of the racecar's modified front end.

In comparison to the ordinary car, the 296 GT3 has a longer wheelbase, more enormous side skirts, and wheels with a Rotiform design on the sides. The race car also has a diffuser and a sizable swan-neck rear wing, both of which are aerodynamic design components. Due to these substantial improvements, the 296 GT3 has a dry weight of 1,250kg and 20 per cent more downforce than the 488 GT3.

The 296 GT3 has an adjustable steering wheel, pedals, a safety harness, and air conditioning inside.

The racecar is powered by the same 3.0-litre turbo V6 gasoline engine as the 296 GTB supercar. However, unlike the road-going supercar, the machine does not use hybrid technology to adhere to technical standards. It has a 602hp and 709Nm output, 228hp and 31Nm less than the average automobile. Due to the engine's design, Ferrari paired it with a transversely mounted, six-speed sequential gearbox with electronic clutch actuation.

Ferrari was able to place the powertrain lower and farther front than in the conventional car, resulting in a lower centre of gravity and a 10% increase in torsional rigidity, thanks to the car's removal of its hybrid system's weight. In addition to improved brakes, the 296 GT3 also receives improved suspension to reduce pressure on the tyres.
