FASTag Annual Pass: Cost, Eligibility, Highways & Activation

The FASTag Annual Pass was introduced on August 15, 2025, by the Government of India to enable quicker and cheaper toll payment by the owners of private vehicles. The plan extends to cars, jeeps and vans and provides relief to frequent highway commuters who have to fill the FASTag balance often.

How the Pass Works

The pass is priced at ₹3,000 and has a 200-trip count or a one-year validity duration of usage-whichever happens earlier. It is directly connected to an active FASTag account as well as the registration number of the vehicle.

The pass covers toll deductions, once activated, on National Highways (NH) and most National Expressways (NE). In the case of State Highways, frequent FASTag deductions will still exist.

Eligibility and Activation Process

To purchase the annual pass, vehicle owners must ensure:

  • The car has an active FASTag installed on the windshield.

  • The tag is properly linked with the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN).

  • The account has no disputes or blacklist issues.

The pass is available as an online purchase either at the Rajmargyatra app or at the NHAI. Once the Rs. 3000 payment is made, it is activated within two hours and the users are notified via SMS.

Benefits and Savings

The new pass will also cut costs to less than ₹15 - ₹20 per crossing, as average tolls per trip are ₹70 - ₹80 with the new pass. This amounts to nearly 80 percent savings to a person who makes 200 trips a year.

In addition to cost, the scheme will decrease the wait time in the toll plazas, improve the flow of traffic and eliminate the inconvenience of frequent stop-ups.

Issues Reported by Users

There have been some of the early adopters who have reported difficulties such as failed recharges, late activation or incorrect deductions in spite of being a pass owner.

These glitches are being resolved in the NHAI helpline (1033) and issuing banks. It is also recommended that the user should read the ‘Terms and Conditions’ of FASTag carefully before they apply, as the terms regulate the refund, dispute and eligibility policies.

Why It Matters

To those commuters and intercity travelers, the FASTag Annual Pass is not only about money savings. It is a transition to smooth technology-based tolling, less congestion and smoother highway travel. Nevertheless, it is crucial to note down the ‘FASTag: Terms and Conditions’ to prevent unforeseen problems.
