Our Park+ Highlight of the Day includes information about the forthcoming BMW i5 electric vehicle.

The first-ever completely electric car by BMW, the i5, has been in testing for a while now. The next-generation 5 series-based EV is now prepared to make its premiere on May 24 around the globe. The i5 is expected to hit the Indian shores this year itself.

The teaser video revealed that the next sedan EV will have kidney-type grilles with lighted LED lights on the borders, which will make a lighting sound similar to that heard on the new 7 Series, without providing many further specifics about the vehicle. The teaser also reveals the two vertical LED daytime running lights (DRLs) that are housed inside the compact LED headlights. According to the rumour, the grilles of the next i5 vehicle would sport the i badging.

The dashboard design of the flagship 7 Series is also hinted at in the teaser. The centerpiece is a large, independent touchscreen running BMW's state-of-the-art iDrive 8.5 operating system. The touch screen, which is prominently placed, looks to manage the air conditioning's temperature settings, but there are other controls hidden in a panel below it. Like in the brand-new 7 Series, ambient lighting components span the dashboard and extend onto the doors.

In addition to the regular gasoline and diesel models, the new 5 Series will also be available with mild- and plug-in hybrid powertrains. In reality, the i5 will also feature a M performance option with refined dynamics, exactly as the i4 M50. If the i4's specifications are any indication, the i5 should have a battery pack that is the same size as or larger than the i4's 80.3kWh, according to WLTP claims.

BMW already showed off the improved driver assistance features that will be available with the new 5 Series. Notably, the "highway assistant" technology allows the car to take over steering and control at speeds up to 130 km/h, making driving smoother. Additionally, lane change assist will be eye movement activated; all it takes is a quick glance in the rearview mirror to start the lane change procedure, which includes steering and speed changes.
