Cruising Through History: Jamshedpur's Vintage Car & Bike Rally

The third edition of the Tata Steel Vintage and Classic Car & Bike Rally was held in Jamshedpur on February 25, as part of the 185th Founder's Day celebrations honouring Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. Over 160 vintage and classic cars and bikes from the 1920s to 1980s participated in the event, which saw vehicles driven from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Punjab and Odisha.

The rally was extremely important on a regional level since it attracted fans from West Bengal, Jharkhand, Punjab, and Odisha, and it featured around 160 classic automobiles and motorcycles ranging from the 1920s to the 1980s. Dignitaries from Tata Steel, including Chanakya Chaudhary, Probal Ghosh, and Chaitanya Bhanu, ceremoniously waved the flag to begin the event's nostalgic trip through the city. The 23 km course, which began at Bharucha Mansion and ended at the United Club, passed famous sites including Jubilee Park, St. George's Church, and enthusiastic spectators.

A rare Mercedes Nurburg, one of only two in India owned by Tata Steel, participated in the rally. Other notable vehicles included a Mercury 8 sedan, the overall winner in the car category owned by Sourav Roy, and a Triumph 3HW motorcycle, the overall winner in the bike category owned by Hermit Singh Bhamra. Judges included Prithvi Nath Tagore, Nitin Sreshtha, Saikat Dutta and Harjit Singh Dhanjal.

The inclusion of Jamshedpur's Super Biker's Club, which rides bikes from legendary brands such as Harley-Davidson and Triumph, demonstrates the rally's expanding popularity and open spirit. Since its start in 2022 as part of Tata Steel's cultural preservation initiatives, the Jamshedpur Rally has been a signature event, attracting participants from all over India. Aside from displaying historic autos, the event honours Jamshedpur's cultural past, encouraging community participation and sustaining the city's cultural tradition. The rally, which continues to be popular, honours Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata's legacy and promises to inspire future generations.
