To combat the persistent issue of overloaded vehicles, with a particular focus on mining dumpers, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is gearing up to introduce innovative Weight in Motion Sensors (VIMS) at the Kherki Daula toll plaza in Gurugram. These cutting-edge sensors will empower authorities to accurately identify and penalize overweight vehicles attempting to traverse the city's roadways. The decision was reached during a crucial road safety committee meeting chaired by Gurugram's Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav.

In a concerted effort to address the multifaceted challenge, the committee devised a comprehensive plan. It delineates penalties for those found transporting illegally mined materials to and from crushers, whereas overloaded vehicles will incur a significant financial penalty, with toll charges set to increase tenfold.

Deputy Commissioner Yadav went a step further, directing NHAI officials to extend the implementation of this sophisticated system beyond the Kherki Daula toll plaza to cover the Gurugram-Sohna expressway and Faridabad Road. The expanded coverage is a strategic move to mitigate overloaded vehicles across multiple critical routes.

The initiative doesn't merely focus on vehicles associated with mining activities but also extends its purview to encompass those engaged in commercial and public transport. Overloaded vehicles pose a substantial risk to road safety and contribute significantly to accidents in the city. Recognizing this, NHAI's proactive measures include targeting overloaded vehicles not just on NH-48 but also on the Faridabad and Sohna expressways.

The holistic approach involves identifying and addressing accident-prone black spots, spanning key areas such as Rao Gajraj Singh Marg, Vikas Marg, Kadipur Chowk to Pataudi Chowk, Hero Honda Chowk to Himgiri Chowk, Sector 22A Road, Rajiv Chowk, Shankar Chowk, Narsinghpur, and more.
