Car Price Hike April-May 2026: MG M9, Mahindra Scorpio Classic and BYD Models Get Dearer
MG M9 gets a Rs 5 lakh hike effective April 2026, widening its gap over the Kia Carnival to over Rs 16 lakh.
BYD India will raise prices on all four of its models by 2 to 3 percent from May 1, 2026, citing Middle East supply chain disruptions.
JSW MG Motor India has kicked off its April 2026 price revision with the MG M9 luxury electric MPV seeing the steepest hike. Sold through the brand's Select retail channel, the M9 now carries a sticker price of Rs 75.90 lakh (ex-showroom), reflecting an increase of Rs 5 lakh over its previous price of Rs 70.90 lakh.
The MG M9 is powered by a 90kWh battery pack paired with a front-mounted electric motor producing 241bhp and 350Nm of torque. It returns a claimed range of 548km on a single charge and is available in a seven-seat configuration. The cabin comes well-appointed, offering twin sunroofs, powered and ventilated second-row seats with massage function, a 13-speaker JBL audio system, a digital interior rear-view mirror, and seven airbags as standard.
Despite the hike, the M9 remains positioned below the Toyota Vellfire, which is priced at Rs 1.19 crore (ex-showroom). A more direct comparison comes in the form of the Kia Carnival, which is currently priced at Rs 59.42 lakh (ex-showroom) following a revision in October 2025.
That places the Carnival over Rs 16 lakh below the M9, even though both offer a premium cabin experience. The key differentiator is the M9's fully electric powertrain versus the Carnival's diesel engine, a distinction that carries weight for some buyers while working against the MG in markets where EV infrastructure is still developing.
Mahindra has issued revised prices for the Scorpio Classic, effective April 6, 2026. Despite the arrival of the newer Scorpio N, the Classic has maintained a loyal following and continued to hold its own in the market.
The range is offered in two trim levels, S and S11, with a single powertrain option throughout: a 2.2-litre mHawk turbocharged diesel engine producing 132PS and 300Nm, mated to a six-speed manual gearbox with rear-wheel drive as standard.
The base Classic S in the seven-seat front-facing configuration sees a modest hike of Rs 2,000, taking its price to Rs 13 lakh. The nine-seater Classic S variant gets a more noticeable increase of Rs 25,501, now priced at Rs 13.45 lakh.
The top-spec S11 trim, offered in both seven-seat captain chair and seven-seat front-facing configurations, receives a uniform hike of Rs 29,401, with both variants now priced at Rs 17 lakh (all prices ex-showroom).
Equipment on the Scorpio Classic includes halogen projector headlights, alloy wheels, a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, LED taillights, fog lamps, and dual front airbags. The SUV is available in four colour options: Galaxy Grey, Diamond White, Stealth Black, and Everest White.
BYD India has announced an upcoming price hike of 2 to 3 percent across all four of its models, coming into effect from May 1, 2026. In approximate figures, this translates to increases ranging from around Rs 50,000 at the lower end to approximately Rs 1.7 lakh at the higher end. The four models affected are the Atto 3, eMax 7, Seal, and Sealion 7.
The primary driver behind this revision is the ongoing disruption in the Middle East. The intermittent operational status of the Strait of Hormuz since late February 2026 has affected the global supply of raw materials, including aluminium and petroleum coke.
The latter is a key ingredient in the production of synthetic graphite, which is central to EV battery manufacturing. For a brand that sells only electric vehicles in India, these cost pressures are particularly acute. Higher shipping costs for imported vehicles and components add further weight to the revision.
It is worth noting that the specific revised prices have not yet been formally disclosed by BYD India; the figures currently available are approximate estimates. Final confirmed pricing is expected closer to the May 1 effective date.
