BYD Sealion 7 scores a 5-star safety rating in the Euro NCAP tests

The new BYD Sealion 7 scored the following in various parameters:

  1. 87% for Adult Occupant Protection

  2. 93% for the Child Occupant Protection

  3. 76% for the vulnerable road users

  4. 79% for Safety assistance systems

Adult Occupant Protection

In frontal offset crash tests, the Sealion 7's passenger compartment was stable. It exhibited excellent protection for vital body regions like knees and femurs, for driver and front passenger alike. In the full-width rigid barrier test, rear seat passengers' chests were rated as 'weak', but otherwise the vehicle exhibited good safety performance in all other vital areas.

In side barrier and pole impact tests, the SUV achieved the best points, providing good protection to all essential body areas. Whiplash protection for front and rear seats was also considered as good.

Child Safety

The Sealion 7 excelled in child occupant protection, with a 93% rating. In frontal and side impacts, the SUV offered good protection for 6- and 10-year-old child dummies. ISOFIX mounting points and a 'child presence detection' system are on board, which reminds if a child is forgotten.

Vulnerable Road Users

With regards to pedestrian and cyclist protection, the BYD Sealion 7 received 76%. Although the autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system in the car performed well when it came to detecting pedestrians, cyclists, and motorcyclists, certain aspects, such as head protection close to windshield pillars and cyclist dooring, were scored as marginal.

Safety Assistance Systems

The Sealion 7 has an extensive range of driver assistance functions, including:

– Autonomous braking (AEB) with car, pedestrian, and cyclist recognition

– Lane keep assist with emergency lane keep

– Intelligent speed limit recognition and intelligent speed assistance

– Direct driver surveillance system for inattention and drowsiness warning

– All front row seats have reminders to wear the seatbelt, and the Sealion 7 has an upmarket eCall system and a multi-collision braking system available as standard equipment

Conclusion

The BYD Sealion 7's performance in the Euro NCAP crash tests reflects the brand's firm dedication to safety in the fast-expanding electric SUV market. With good adult and child occupant protection scores and comprehensive safety assistance features, the Sealion 7 is a strong contender for customers looking at a safe, feature-packed electric SUV in 2025.
