Bugatti has unveiled its latest model, the Bugatti Tourbillon, a groundbreaking hybrid supercar with a massive price tag and performance to match. This new model will succeed the $3.3 million, 1,500 horsepower Bugatti Chiron, pushing the boundaries even further with its hybrid technology.
Despite industry trends leaning towards all-electric vehicles, Bugatti Rimac's CEO, Mate Rimac, has emphasized maintaining the essence of Bugatti's gasoline-powered legacy. The Bugatti Tourbillon features a 16-cylinder gas engine, designed in collaboration with British race car engineering firm Cosworth, complemented by three powerful electric motors. The hybrid setup will generate a combined output of at least 1,800 horsepower, with the electric motors alone contributing around 800 horsepower.
Unlike its predecessors, the Tourbillon's gas engine is naturally aspirated, foregoing turbochargers to achieve a high-revving, emotionally engaging driving experience. This decision stems from a desire to create the most exhilarating combustion engine possible, according to Rimac.
The car's interior pays tribute to traditional mechanical craftsmanship, with its name, Tourbillon, derived from a set of gears used in mechanical watches for accuracy. The instrument display is inspired by watch dials, featuring a central speedometer with dual needles—one for speed and another for engine revolutions per minute.
While the Tourbillon maintains a classic aesthetic, it includes modern conveniences like a retractable display screen with Apple CarPlay. This screen is designed to remain hidden unless activated by the driver, preserving the timeless look of the car's interior. Bugatti's design philosophy aims to ensure the car remains aesthetically pleasing for decades to come.
Only 250 units of the Bugatti Tourbillon will be produced, with each car being assembled individually at Bugatti's factory in Molsheim, France. The starting price for this exclusive supercar is approximately $4 million.
The Bugatti Tourbillon represents a blend of traditional mechanical prowess and cutting-edge hybrid technology, making it a unique and powerful addition to the world of supercars. With its impressive specifications and luxurious design, it stands as a testament to Bugatti Rimac's commitment to innovation and heritage.
